Peter Theodore Lezott

A Michigan native, possibly a Detroiter, Peter Theodore Lezott was farmer in Wayne County (locality unspecified) in the summer of 1862. He was 23, and would therefore have been born about 1839.

Peter enlisted in company G on August 11, 1862 at Detroit. His company was mustered into service on August 13, 1862.

In recognition of his service, Peter Lezott was promoted to the rank of Corporal. The date and circumstances surrounding this promotion are unknown. Note that in the photograph at left, there are no chevrons on his civilian-style coat: this may ultimately help date the image. Later, near the end of the war, the regiment received a large influx of recruits; enough to bring them back to full strength. This entitled the regiment to a full complement of officers and NCOs. Peter was promoted to Sergeant on April 11, 1865, a rank which he would have held during Lincoln's Funeral.

Peter Lezott mustered out with the regiment at Detroit, on June 30, 1865.

Peter Theodore Lezott died in 1890. He was only 51 years old.
