Based on the State Adjutant General's records, William Asmus, or more correctly Ashman was from Detroit. He enlisted in Company I on March 22, 1865 at Jackson, Michigan for 1 year, and was mustered into service on the same day. He was 36. During his brief service, he along with the rest of the 24th Michigan, participated in Lincoln's funeral. He mustered out with the Regiment at Detroit on June 30, 1865.
