A lot of care must go into a stroker motor. You're pushing the design of the motor to its limit. Clearences must be checked throughtly. The bottom section of the cylinder sleeves much be notched to clear the additional throw of the crankshaft and connecting rods. Piston choice is important because the wrist pin enters the oil ring landing. A quality piston is imperative to prevent excessive oil consumtion. One such solution are SRP pistons with an additional oil ring support.
Cylinder head choice is important because the size of the combustion chamber must be considered in addition to flow capability. Stuffing more than 40 extra cubes into the same size combstion chamber can sky rocket your compression in a hurry if not taken into consideration. Cylinder head flow is of course also important. What works well on a 302 is going to be on the small side on stroker motor. A 347 is almost the same size as a 351W, give or take a few cubes. So, while a 302 Vic Jr. intake works best with a high winding 302, its flow charastarists are ideal for a streetable 347. The same thing applies to cylinder heads. AFR 185 heads are a bit much for a 302, but with an additional 45 cubes its a well balanced combination. |
