Our last meeting was held January 10 at the clubhouse in Cabot. You all missed my debut as “acting president” in Eddy’s absence. I heard I can be mean when you put a gavel in my hands --- watch out President Clinton.
We did form a committee or I guess I formed a committee to talk with Goodsell Truck Accessories about having a show with him sometime this summer. Mr. Goodsell wanted us to have a show this past summer, but we didn’t have sufficient time to prepare for it. Hopefully sometime during February the committee members will meet with Mr. Goodsell and report back to the club. If anyone is interested in joining the car show committee, please get with me at the February meeting.
Sherry & Lee Jones mentioned that the Sooner’s club is wanting to have another tri-club picnic sometime during the spring. More information will follow as soon as it is available.
Our next meeting will be February 7 at 1 p.m. at the home of Lee & Sherry Jones in Cabot. Directions are included in this newsletter. And no, Mark did not make the directions !!! Hope to see you all there !!!
Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who has been effected by
the recent stream of tornadoes throughout Arkansas.

Our last meeting was at the home of Lee &
Sherry Jones. Special thanks to them for having us all out and all
the good food !! We had a really nice day visiting with everyone
and got a lot accomplished.
There are a few upcoming shows/events to announce. The Show-Me F-100 show will be July 16-18 at the Edgewood Hotel in Branson. The cost of a room is $35 and tell them you are with the Ozark Run. Call 1-800-641-4106 for reservations at the Edgewood. This year the show is open up to 1972 Ford pickups. Hope to see everyone there !!!
Several of our members attended the All Club Round-up in Russellville on February 13. This is an annual event where clubs announce their show dates. We will have plenty of dates to include in each monthly calendar. So please, read the calendar each month. If anyone has any other dates to include in the calendar, please let me know.
There will be a car show in Heber Springs on April 24 in the Wal-Mart parking lot. This is the 3rd annual car show for the North Central Arkansas Cruisers and is definitely a show worth attending. It is open class and registration begins at 8:00. Several members last year attended and we all camped out for a few days. We are planning to camp again this year also. If you are interested, please get with a committee members listed below for more information.

The Fun Night Committee was formed to help put together fun club activities each month. We will probably announce a destination during the meeting and set a time and place to meet for that activity. Several suggestions included, fishing trip, go-carts, laser tag, bowling, camping, and cruises to some new Sonics around our area. If you have any suggestions about a cruise destination, please contact one of the committee members at the next meeting. Sometime ago, we had put together several outings that members were interested in and drew one out at each meeting. We would like to get this started again. So start thinking about some outings you would like to do and bring all your ideas to the next meeting.
The bake sale committee was formed due to our
good success last year.
Most of the money we raised last year went to
a local charity. We hope to announce a date for sometime in April
for the next bake sale. Please get with a committee members at the
next meeting if you are interested in participating in this. We are
also interested in any possible locations to have our bake sale.
Our next meeting will be March 7. We have planned to cruise to Heber Springs Dam Site and have a picnic in one of the pavilions. We will be meeting at the Searcy Wal-Mart SuperCenter parking lot, exit 46 and will leave there by 10:30 a.m. Everyone who will be coming, please bring sandwiches, chips, drinks for your family. The club will provide the napkins, paper plates, and plastic forks & spoons. For more information, contact any of the officers listed on the inside cover of the newsletter. Hope to see you there !!!!
Happy birthday to Lucas Wooten on March 6 !! I forgot to include his birthday on the last calendar. Have a wonderful birthday !!!
And another special birthday wish goes out to
my wonderful husband, Mark Williams who will be celebrating the “BIG 30”
on March 27. He’s like a good wine, he just keeps getting better
with age !!! Love always from Jannett & Danielle.

The following is an actual article found in last week’s Arkansas Democrat Gazette.
10-W-40 blood type nips marriage license
Knoxville, Tenn. -- Jilted
by his girlfriend, Buster Mitchell decided he wanted to marry his true
love -- his 1006 Mustang GT.
Mitchell, 28, didn’t
get very far in the marriage license application before the clerk dashed
his dreams Thursday. Only men and women can marry under Tennessee
law, officals explained.
It was after he listed
his fiancee’s birthplace as “Detroit,” her father as “Henry Ford” and her
blood type as “10-W-40” that his plans sputtered.
“Well, in California
they are doing same-sex marriages,” he said. “So we are here in Tennessee.
Why can’t we do the good old boy think and marry our cars and trucks?”
Mitchell isn’t giving
up. He plans to try at a couple of wedding chapels in the Great Smoky
Mountains. (AP)

May 1999
Our last meeting was held on May 2 at Vern’s home in Cabot. We had scheduled a meeting at the car show in Heber Springs in late April, however, the weather didn’t allow many members to attend.
On May 8, several members attended a cruise-in at the Cabot Sonic. Then members cruised to Searcy to visit with Frank Pearson, who recently got out of the hospital. Then we cruised to the go-cart track and laser tag. And unfortunately, the guys beat the girls in the laser tag game. Better luck next time, girls !!!
Coming up on May 22 there will be a cruise-in at the Cabot Market Place just off highway 5 Cabot exit. Members from our club will be there and hopefully will have a booth set up for club information. There will be free hotdogs, drinks, door prizes, a petting zoo and K-Duck radio will also be there to play music and give away a four-wheeler sometime during the day. Hope to see you all there !!
We discussed during the meeting the possibility of having a show with the owner of the Cabot Market Place sometime in September. Robin Pipkin and myself spoke to the owner on Friday May 7 about details for the show. Some of the items discussed included: grand prize giveaway, door prizes, t-shirts, trophies, and proceeds to go to a designated charity. More information will be presented at the June meeting.
We put together a car show committee and the members are as follows:
Eddy & Robin Pipkin
Lee Jones
Mark & Jannett Williams
Randy Tokarz
Sherry Jones wanted to compliment Mark Williams for all his hard work
on our web-site. Our web-site address is as follows:

CAP Show 1999
We have good news and bad news depending on whether you wanted to have a show this year. The show has been officially canceled due to an extreme lack of participation lately. This would have been about as easy as putting on a show could be, with a sponsor that was willing to provide a location, trophies, refreshments, t-shirts, advertising, and about everything else you can think of, with us only having to show up and run it and take care of things. But when it was time to start making decisions and plans for the show, people quit showing up for meetings. Some of that may be due to “theme” meeting we had such as fishing trips, or cruises to the lake, that were intended to make monthly meetings even better. Oops, looks like that was a flop. As things stand now, future meetings will be held at someones house or other location and be slated for meetings only. If something evolves out of the meeting, then that’s great; otherwise we can have the meeting and everyone can sit and talk or head home.
If anyone is offended by what I have said, then I apologize. This
is just the way I feel and I don’t think anyone can argue that as a club,
we have all gotten lazy lately; myself included while I have been without
a truck. The main reason I joined this club years ago is that we did things
together. I still enjoy attending meetings and seeing each of you, but
I also like getting out and doing things with the club that may or may
not have anything to do with club meetings.
Fun Day
There was talk in Branson of having a Club Fun Day sometime in October when things have cooled off. This will be a day completely outside of a meeting and will be a chance for the club to get together and just have some fun. A preliminary site suggested was Berryhill Park in Searcy as they have a volleyball court, playground for the kids, and picnic areas. We can discuss it more at the next meeting.
August Meeting
The next meeting will be held at Vern’s house in Cabot on August 1st at 1:00 p.m. Hope to see everyone there !!

August 1999
Well, our August meeting was held at Vern’s home in Cabot, and what to my surprising eyes do I see as we pull in ????? Mark’s old ‘55 Ford pickup --- it now belongs to Johnny & Renee McClure. I sure am glad to see it back with the club !!
For all those interested, the Tri-Club Picnic will be September 17 at the Bernice State Park in Bernice, Oklahoma. It promises to be a lot of fun (as it is every year), even though Mark never seems to be home on the weekend of the picnic and I’m stuck in Arkansas. They have planned a trip to the antique shops (for all us ladies) or a trip to Darryl Starbirds Museum (for all the guys). Please be sure to look at the attached flyer and map provided by the Sooners. I will also have extra copies of the map and flyer at the September meeting if anyone needs them.
We discussed at the August meeting about an “October Fun Day” at the Berryhill Park in Searcy. I will try to get with the park about reserving the pavilion and let you all know at the next meeting. This will be a good way for all of us to relax and have some fun. Hopefully, it will be cooled off some by then (surely this heat can’t go on forever ) !!
Our next meeting will be at Vern’s home in Cabot on September 12 at 1:00. Hope to see you all there !!!
Quotes for the day
1. One good thing about Alzheimer's is you get to meet new people
every day.
2. POLICE STATION TOILET STOLEN -- Cops have nothing to go on.

September 1999
Our last meeting was held on September 12 at Vern’s home in Cabot. We had a visitor and a new member to join us at the meeting, Don Wilkins from Ward. Don has been a member in the past and we are glad to have him back with us.
For those member interested, Bud Kelso offered to let all club members bring parts by for a sandblasting day at his business. See his business card in the advertiser’s area. Hopefully, we can find a good time for everyone to participate. Special thanks to Bud !!
We discussed our October Fun Day. Plans have changed slightly -- don’t they always ?!! But this change does promise to be a full day of fun. Recently an article ran in the Arkansas Gazette about some museums in Hardy. The club will be meeting on October 10 in Searcy at the Shoney’s Restaurant. We are planning to leave there at 8:00 a.m. -- so this means if you want to eat first, come EARLY !!! Hope to see you all there !
We are planning to check out the Veterans Military Museum. It was established in 1992 by three war memorabilia collectors. Items included in the museum are from every U.S. military period, including the Revolutionary, Civil, the World Wars, Korea, Vietnam and Desert Storm. The museum’s focal point is a full-sized U.S. Marine COBRA helicopter.
Another interesting spot in Hardy is the Good Old Days Vintage Motorcar Museum owned by Ernie Sutherland. It started with 41 restored classic old vehicles, but the exhibit has now grown to 50, including a 1908 Sears Runabout and a famous “Back to the Future” DeLorean. The owner is said to be very partial to Fords (Sounds like a great guy !!!) and over one-third of his collection consists of Model T’s and A’s. Classics in the Ford display include a 1917 depot truck, a 1915 “Tin Lizzie” and a rare 1927 Huckster. The museum also contains displays of antique automobile accessories, tools, bicycles, motorcycles and even a rickshaw. A small 1930’s-era gas station has been recreated next to the museum, complete with vintage signs, hand-operated pumps, and grease rack.
We will be holding a small very informal meeting on October 10 to decide where our November meeting will be held. We will also be discussing at the November meeting plans and a location for our annual Christmas Banquet.
Mark and I would also like to discuss the possibility of having a cruise for kids -- to collect toys, canned goods, or other donations for the needy families in Arkansas. If you have any suggestions or ideas on what we can do, please bring them up at the next meeting.
The car club in Heber Springs, AR will be sponsoring
another Halloween Cruise-In at the Heber Sonic on October 23, 1999.
There will be a costume contest for kids and adults. For all those
that attended last year, I can say we had a GREAT time, especially seeing
Tommy Garland dressed like a
woman !! Hopefully, we can all make
plans to attend again this year and don’t forget your costumes !!
FOR SALE:
1964 F-600, all original, only 50,000 actual
miles, excellent condition -- would make a great hauler truck, was used
as a bean truck and driven only about 4 or 5 miles daily, $2500.
For more information, please contact Mike Stanley, 600 East Parker, Hamburg,
AR 71646, phone number (870) 853-5951.
If anyone has anything they would like to advertise
to sell, trade or buy, please get in touch with me at the meetings or give
me a call at (501) 742-5329 or email your request to us at markw@ipa.net
Update from Bountiful!
The Tri-Club Get-together has come and gone for
another year. For those who were
unable to attend you missed a great time.
Saturday morning, the group heads off
to Grove OK. to take a tour of Darryl Starbird’s
Antique Auto Museum. Some members of the group had a hard time leaving
the museum. From there we headed into Grove to hit all the antique/flea
markets we could find. The Group finally arrived at a great restaurant
on Monkey Island--a setting prime for a relaxing evening. Speaking
of PRIME, can you believe the special that night was a 10 oz. prime rib
-- And Lee could not finish his! I would not have believed it had
I not seen it myself. For those who are unfamiliar with Lee and his beef,
just ask Doc, Blister, or any CAPS member. I would like to thank Doc for
planning a wonderful trip that will long be remembered. It
is the one time a year that we can forget shining the trucks, visit old
friends, and make new ones. It is what these old trucks are for.
To bring us together through a common bond, and to mold our differences
and personalities into a larger picture.... a family. For any club
that does not have one of these with your own sister clubs, I urge you
to start one. For the members who were unable to attend, I urge you
to not miss the next one. You were missed, and you also missed out.
The torch has now been passed to the CAPS group to plan the Millennium
Tri-Club Get-together. After the one the Show-Me’s gave us in Mena,
and now the Sooners this year, we at CAPS have a tough act to follow.

October 1999
Happy Halloween !!! Hope everyone will have a great Halloween -- and don’t pull too many tricks !!
Our last meeting was actually a cruise to Hardy, Arkansas. It turned out to be a great day !! We went to an antique car museum and had a lot of pictures taken in front of a 30’s era gas station. We then went to a veteran’s museum and I was completely amazed at all the memorabilia they had there -- even an Apache helicopter !! Vern even found a weapons carrier just like the one he has at home. We shopped at all the little stores in downtown Hardy and then went to a restaurant to eat -- I think they had to chase down the cow for Tommy’s steak and that cow must have been a pretty tough character ‘cause it sure was in it’s afterlife as a meal !!!
We wish everyone could have come along because we all had a great time, especially the parade of trucks going up there and back. You also missed seeing Eddy run a stop light in downtown Batesville -- okay -- it wasn’t REALLY his fault, he started having brake problems but that made for an interesting trip home.
Sherry & Lee Jones volunteered to have the annual Christmas banquet at “Da Mansion” in Cabot. It will probably be in the newest addition, “Da West Wing” continuing into “Da Shop” !! Please watch for the invitation in next month’s newsletter. So make plans now to leave December 11 around 6 p.m. open on all your calendars for the last Christmas Party of the Millennium.
We will also be taking nominations during the November meeting for all officers for the 2000 year. So start deciding now who you would like to represent our club during the next year. Elections will be held during the Christmas banquet with new officers assuming their duties at the January 2000 meeting.
Our next meeting will be a working meeting at
Bud Kelso’s business in Little Rock. Surely nobody can come up with a reason
to skip this one..... Bud has a sandblasting business and has offered his
services and equipment for club use at the meeting. I don’t know of anyone
that doesn’t have at least a piece or two that need blasting. I know Mark
is trying to come up with a way to get all his junk, errr, I mean “parts”
down there. And Bud said that the ladies can enjoy his break-room, but
I think I smell a shopping trip -- can anyone say Memphis Flea Market at
the Little Rock Expo Center -- I think everyone can !
This great day is planned for November 14 starting at 10:00 a.m. at Bud’s
Shop. The address is 7507 D Asher Avenue in LR. That’s 1.6
miles south of University, the third driveway past the post office, there
should be a big red sign that says The Finishing Resource. If you
need more directions or information, contact Bud at (501) 565-3667.

November 1999
Happy thanksgiving to you all !! Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving -- and didn’t eat too much. I know the Williams’ will not have to eat for a long time (or at least we shouldn’t eat for a long time). As usual this year, we were running from one family gathering to the next. But it was wonderful to see family that we haven’t seen for awhile.
The November meeting was held at Bud Kelso’s workshop in Little Rock. Special thanks go out to Bud for all his hard work ! I know Mark was especially grateful to get his truck parts sandblasted. Now, if we can just get a motor in that thing that sits lifeless in the carport -- I think it’s a truck !!
And now, a little article courtesy of Sherry Jones:
At the November meeting we were all discussing
the future of the club, which led us to reflect upon the past history of
the club. In the past years CAPS has gone through many By-law changes,
seen membership fluctuate considerably, and watched members grow up, grow
apart, and grow together.
At the recent meeting, discussions occurred on how to improve participation in activities, membership retention, and goals of the club in the year 2000. I volunteered to write this article for the club. As one member pointed out “Nobody wants to write these articles as sometimes feelings are injured.” My intention is to not hurt any feeling. The past year the club has done limited activities together. But in my 9 1/2 year membership with the club I cannot recall a more busier year for most of the members. We have had members spread out to all four corners of the state and beyond at any given weekend in 1999. Most can make the club meetings, but extra curricular activities have been poorly attended. As some members suggested the club should not let this dampen our enthusiasm to plan such events. It was suggested to plan the event and for those that can attend ....... Great. And those that cannot ........ we should just miss their presence and not question their loyalty to the club.
As a club we are a family. We have disagreements,
squabbles, differences and conflicts, different ideas and a
variety of backgrounds that influence us. And much like a blood relative
relationship, things occasionally occur that challenge our love and loyalty
to each other. But in my years with the club I do not remember a
time that the club did not come together as a family when a member was
in crisis. That is just the way it is. There are some things in this club
that you can just count on.
For example:
** Lee will always vote NO on whatever
the issue, but help us anyway as needed.
** Speedy will always be our Communications
Representative at any club function.
** I will never replace my Sawyer brown
license plate even for one of the CAPS one.
** Eddy will always have something in primer.
** Vern will always have more toys than
anyone.
** and Jannett will always have to be secretary.
No one else wants all the work or responsibility.
Back to the meeting .......... Among the suggestions were to increase the activities to include more things for children and more emphasis on family outings. Another member did respond to this by pointing out that the last two activities (fishing trip and museum outing) were just that and still poorly attended. Members did agree that in future planning to keep this in mind. The members in attendance did agree that official club meetings needed to occur at a consistent time and place to insure good attendance. Past experience has proven this. Club outings can then be planned on other days or after meetings. Family participation is encouraged, and even with the low number of children within the club that they could at least have each other to play with during the meetings. Suggestions were also made on ways to plan some activity for the kids to play during the meeting.
To join any organization it takes some measure
of commitment. This does not mean that your whole life should revolve around
club activities. A member should be able to join in as much as possible
and say no when they need to. Sometimes jobs and family obligations over
ride even the best made plans. The point attempting to be made here is
this ......... that in the past some members (especially new ones) have
felt insignificant, intimidated, and left out of club issues. In the future
CAPS members hope to avoid this. Members who have or do feel this way may
help resolve these feeling in the following ways:
* Speak up. Make suggestions. You pay dues
the same as everyone else.
* Don’t be afraid to make waves. Just because
it has always been that way does not mean that there are not other great
ways to do the same thing equally well.
* FORGIVE US our mistakes. Remember that
sometimes things may be interpreted one way, but be meant in an entirely
different manner.
*ASK!!!!!!!!! Ask what you can do, ask
for help or advise if needed, ask about your fellow members and the
history of the club. You need to know what and with whom you are becoming
involved.
Another suggestion from a member was to contact
past members who are no longer with the club and invite them to the Christmas
party. What a great way to see old friends!!!!!!! Thank you Speedy for
that idea. I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and I look forward
to seeing all of you at the party. Chef-Lee-R-D is excited.
Sherry
We also held nominations for officers for the 2000 year at the November meeting. The following have been nominated:
Treasurer: Robin Pipkin and Janet Wyatt
Secretary: Renee McClure and Jannett Williams
Vice President: Bud Kelso and Johnny McClure
President: Sherry Jones, Johnny McClure and Eddy Pipkin
We also added Sherry Jones to help with the photographer position and Lee Jones to help with the Sargent-at-Arms position. Write-in nominations will be accepted during the Christmas banquet on the ballot form. Hope to see you all at the banquet.
We are also planning a “progressive cruise” to check out all the Christmas lights in Little Rock and the surrounding areas. We are planning to meet at Vern’s home in Cabot on December 18. We will then cruise to the state capital building, some other areas surrounding Little Rock , and gradually make our way to Searcy. We are planning to stop at different member’s homes to enjoy some holiday treats. We will announce the finalized plans at the banquet.
Announcements:
Congratulations to Speedy & Virginia Gonzales
on the birth of a grandson !!
Our thoughts also go out to Frank Pearson who just recently underwent heart surgery. Hopefully by the time this newsletter goes out Frank will be resting comfortably at home.
We also want to send out get well wishes Tommy & Tinnie Garland. Tommy & Tinnie were involved in a car accident about 3 weeks ago but both seem to be doing better now.
================================================================================
Decenber 1999
Well, 1999 is almost at an end -- the new millennium is nearly here ! We would like to wish everyone a happy & prosperous New Year !! Now if I can just get used to writing 2000 instead of 1999.
Our last meeting was held December 11 at the home of Lee & Sherry Jones. Special thanks to “Chef Lee R. D.” for the wonderful spaghetti dinner. I’m still waiting on a recipe exchange for my garlic cheese biscuits -- do I still have to pay the $9.95 charge for the recipe ? We had a lot of fun and laughs exchanging gifts -- Dirty Santa did seem cruel at times but still a lot of fun !! Thanks to all the special Santa elves who kept up with how many times the gifts exchanged owners !! Thanks to Doc & Jean for the wonderful ladies door gift that they donated (and special thanks from me, it looks great in my living room ).
Elections for the year 2000 were also held at our Christmas meeting. Yes, we actually did try to make time for a very short meeting during all the festivities. The officers for 2000 are as follows:
Eddy Pipkin -- President
Bud Kelso -- Vice-President
Jannett Williams -- Secretary
Robin Pipkin -- Treasurer
Randy Tokarz and Lee Jones -- Sargent-at-Arms
Sherry Jones -- Photographer
Let this be a friendly reminder of what can happen when you don’t show up for the December meeting (BUD) -- you might just get elected as an officer ! Congratulations to all the 1999 officers and all the new 2000 officers !!
Several members attended a “progressive cruise”
on December 18 to look at Christmas lights. We all had a lot of fun
walking around the Berryhill Park in Searcy. If you want to see some
really neat light displays -- check out the parks in Searcy !!
Thanks to everyone who participated in the cruise and to everyone who made
our stops even better with hot cocoa, coffee, and food.
We also had time before the cruise to go by and
check on Frank Pearson who is recovering from heart surgery. We also
surprised Frank by dropping off several sacks of goodies for him and his
family. Frank seemed to be doing a lot better and it shouldn’t
be too long before he is up & running soon !!
Our next meeting will be held on January 9, 2000 at 1 p.m. at Vern’s clubhouse in Cabot. We would like to get any ideas you might have for our upcoming Tri-Club picnic. We are planning to have it sometime during September 2000 in Eureka Springs. This is a non-competition fun-filled weekend and gives us time to enjoy other sister-clubs in and around this area. Just ask anyone who got to attend the Sooner’s Tri-Club picnic this year. Thanks to all the Sooner’s for a great trip to Grove, OK !! We just hope the CAP Tri-Club picnic can live up to the past examples and be a weekend of fun !!!
And now an excerpt from “The Benchracer“ published by our friends in S.O.C.P. in Canada . . . .
Why be part of a club ?
By Gary
Pratt
How many times have you heard any of these phrases: “Truck clubs are too cliquey”; or “Too much politics”; and “I’m a lone wolf -- I don’t like clubs.” Everyone has reasons for not being a member of a club.
Too cliquey ? Well did you ever think that some of these people like each other not only because of their trucks and may have other shared interests ?
Too much politics ? Next time you’re at a gathering of 10 or 15 people, see if someone doesn’t emerge as the leader. And if there aren’t differences of opinion, then wake everyone up !!
Lone wolf, you say ? What about the same three or four guys that you hang out with at all the cruise nights and car shows ? Naw, you guys aren’t part of a group !!
Now I’m not about to defend clubs. I think the people who are in them speak the loudest about their merits -- in fact, they yell. But clubs are different things to different people, and perhaps even at different times. A case in point happened recently for me.
In September I sold my ‘53 panel, so I needed to find a new set of wheels. Locally had proven to be a barren field, so my search took me through the many club newsletters that you send me. A couple of leads, a few calls to people in the know, and I should be the owner of a ‘61 - ‘63 Unibody by the time you read this.
So you see, being part of club has served a new purpose for me once again. Networking with other clubs and their members has found me a new truck. I’ll just add this to my list of great things that I like about clubs; great friends, fun family events, car shows and cruise nights, great ideas, information, moral support and friends to help and be helped by -- all great memories.
If it sounds as if I’m harping about clubs, yes
I am ! I’m a believer and ardent supporter. I believe that
there are many reasons to be part of truck club, and definitely more good
than bad. If you don’t believe me, just ask the people wearing the
club jackets -- the ones hanging around together with big smiles.
