SAKKARA

This is the entrance to the mastaba of Mereruka. A mastaba is a one level building with many rooms, and it contains the sarcophagus of the person it belongs to. It was usually meant for nobles, mayors, priests, etc. Mainly people who were close to the pharoah.

This is a statue of Mereruka in one of the main rooms inside his mastaba.

This is the pyramid of Teti, who was the first king of the sixth dynasty.

This is the shaft that leads down into the burial chamber. I'm in the shaft, taking a picture, looking up towards Richard and the entrance behind him in the distance.
