By the end of the hurricane module, you will be able to:
- Identify development and mechanics of hurricanes.
- Learn aspects such as latent heat, pressure gradients and wind shear which can be applied to further modules in the earth sciences.
- Be able to tie together complex arguments and eventually test yourself at the end of the module.
- Be able to develop associative and comprehension skills in earth sciences.
- Develop cognitive skills and visual identification skills.
- Develop support skills such as journal entry to help digest information further.
- Experience what its like to be in a hurricane hunter plane.
- Create an appreciation of powers of nature, leading to interest / study in geographical sciences.
Total expected time to be completed is less than 2 hours. However this is not taking into account amount of secondary work done i.e visiting websites and so on.
Students can take a break and resume the study at any time. However for the end test it is recommended that students finish the whole test without breaks.
This is to encourage students to take the test as a serious component in quantifying understanding and refining further the students knowledge.
The teaching module is aimed at students entering institutions of higher learning due to some complex and technical questions.
It is known that students may have already studied about hurricanes in high school and if so, this would serve as a refresher course to earth sciences.
Students are expected to approach this lesson with enthusiasm and try to experience in addition to learning the material. An open minded view as well as willingness to learn is also encouraged.
