Where do the "eight principles of budo" come from?  According to a list I have here, they consist of: truth, bravery, compassion, courtesy, sincerity, loyalty, discernment, and faith.  Do any of you have a reference to a Japanese source, and if you had the Japanese terms as well that would be a bonus.

Thanks -- John

Another question: how do these relate to the seven qualities embodied by the seven pleats in a hakama?

They're Confucian values predating the arrival of Buddhism in China.
