Do any of you have experience with Wado Ryu karate? I've been considering
cross-training in a P/K style and a local Wado Ryu school comes recommended by
my sensei (always a good sign); I was wondering if anyone on the list had
opinions they'd like to share on the topic.
This is from the brochure (all capitalization and spelling theirs):
> What is Wado Ryu Karate?

Dear Mr. Costello,
Wado Ryu is an excellent karate style but you must bear some points in
mind. First of all, inasmuch as WR has some points of Yoshin Ryu Jujutsu
included in its elaboration, for the last 60 years m/l, it has, as so many
styles of karate, concentrated in competition, forgetting or abandoning kata and
self defense forms (including the jujutsu part). So don't go to the dojo,
expecting to see a large jujutsu part (perhaps none). As for competitive karate,
I believe that they are good.
The mention of aikijujutsu seems to me to be more of a current fad than any
real linking.
