Had to tell someone this story, nobody I know outside the dojo seems to get what I'm so exited about...

Last night half of the class was free practise, my partner and I were experimenting with iriminage (the put-your-head-on-my-shoulder technique), I
always have trouble with getting uke to come along after I have stepped behind them, and he was refusing to move if I did anything resembling pushing
or pulling (ok that's not clever ukemi but we were experimenting).

So I showed sensei what we were doing and he asked me to stop right there behind uke. "Now, let your hands just rest there. Think of your center. Now, move your center backwards" and I did, and

there wasn't two people anymore, not even two people moving in the same direction, but *one*

and I actually felt like I was doing something NICE to uke, I was startled by how touched I felt, suddenly all this talk of love and harmony makes more sense although it still sounds meaningless to me when I write it but I've felt it, and I'm going to keep looking for it...

Great feeling isn't it? I can sometimes get it in some techniques....and I look for it now in every technique, cause I always think that it is in there somewhere. I got it best with ikkyo-ura. That thing where you just turn...I can easily forget myself and start pulling, but as soon as I notice it doesn't work I remember the "other way".

I also know what you mean about nobody outside the dojo or the list understanding how cool it is when it works. Nice of you to remind me!

Thanks,

Jim
