THE SITUATION IN AMBON / MOLUCCAS Report no. 95
- VICTIMS AT SEA - Local radio reports that this morning a speedboat
with twenty christians on board was shot at after leaving Galala ,
bound for Benteng. The attackers launched their assault with six
speedboats and used standard or organic rifles and grenades. In this
incident five of the christians were killed, fourteen were injured of
whom several seriously. These are now being taken care of in the navy
hospital at Halong.
- ANOTHER VICTIM - A christian was assaulted in the A.J.Patty Street.
He was seriously wounded.
- TENSENESS IN AMBON - Since last Monday, November 20, most
office assistants of the Government offices in Ambon prefer to stay
home. The streets in the christian quarters of Ambon are emptier than
usual, due to the tense situation.
- VISIT OF THE APOSTOLIC NUNCIO - Referring to our Report 93 no.
2, about the cancelling of the Apostolic Nuncio's visit to Ambon, since
there is no possibility of direct connection to Tual-Langgur
(Kei-Islands, S.E.Moluccas) on Friday afternoon (tomorrow), the
Nuncio 'if possible' after arriving from Jakarta at Laha, will travel from
the airport of Laha to Ambon tomorrow afternoon for a short visit,
then leave for Tual-Langgur on Saturday morning, November 25.
