(1st full appearance Shatterstar)

The intruder alert sounds in the Danger Room and the team goes in to find their visitor, destroying practice equipment. Warpath is the first to attack and he is easily shrugged off. Domino then takes the intruder down, but is sucker punched while trying to talk to him. Cannonball attacks, but is repelled by a red blast from the hilt of the stranger's sword. After the others fail, Cable takes matters in his own hands, defeats, and disarms the man. He then introduces himself as Shatterstar "a Blood Warrior of the Cadre Alliance" before Cable shuts him up with one final blow. The furry orange mutant is still undetected. More visitors come to the mansion when armored forces come to find Shatterstar and Masque, Brute and Hump come looking for the escaped Morlock. In the medi-lab, Shatterstar is interrogated. He says he is on a mission to recruit the X-Men to help in a rebellion against Mojo V and Spiral as they did for his descendent Longshot over 100 years ago. Boomer goes to the kitchen where she discovers the Morlock looking in the cupboards. She lets off a time bomb and Cable and Cannonball come to investigate. They listen to the Morlock's plea for help, while in the medi-lab, the warriors ("Imperial Protectorate") have found Shatterstar with Domino and Warpath. The ensuing battle is joined by the others and their newly discovered friend. As a team they defeat their foes, who suddenly disappear when beaten. The other Morlocks wait until the battle is over and then demand the return of the Morlock, named Feral. Cable shoots Brute and sends Masque and Hump back into the sewers.

At the closing, Cable meets with his team now including Shatterstar and Feral and tells them they have to leave, because too many enemies know where they are and delivers his dramatic speech on the purpose of the team. Cannonball and Boomer, the only ones left from the New Mutant book, contemplate their history briefly then set off with the others knowing they can depend on each other for support.

Epilogue: one minute later, somewhere in the U.S., Stryfe organizes the MLF for a strike on Genosha for their crimes against mutants. The final page reveals Stryfe unmasked and he looks exactly like Cable.
