A furry orange mutant is seen escaping from the control of Masque and the Morlocks into the underground levels of the mansion to open the story. The scene then shifts to Tavern on the Green, a NY restaurant, where Cable unsuccessfully tries to recruit James Proudstar, brother of the late X-Man Thunderbird. Gideon observes the conversation on a "personal station", and emerges from his sanctuary when Sunspot arrives to speak to him. Gideon tells Sunspot that he is the heir to his father's business fortune and together they can continue to make it a strong empire, then convinces him to leave the team. Back at the mansion, Boomer and Cannonball inform Cable and Domino that Rictor left. They want to go find him, but Cable acts like he doesn't care and orders Cannonball to drop the subject. Upset by Cable's attitude, Boomer and Cannonball walk out. James Proudstar (Warpath) returns to his home to find his reservation destroyed by the Hellfire Club, because he also refused membership with the Hellions. He swears revenge and decides to take Cable's offer. Later that night, Sunspot comes to tell Cable he is leaving, to which Cable again responds uncaringly. Boomer and Domino argue and Cable and Cannonball argue, but they both stay with the team under a little tension. They say farewell to Sunspot and are later joined in the Danger Room by Warpath. On the final page the unnamed furry mutant spies on the proceedings and plans to seek refuge with the team and a strange man carrying a double bladed sword is seen lying on the Danger Room floor.
