Sunspot relives the football match where his mutant powers emerged. This time, nothing happens and he goes on to win the match. Afterwards, he is approached by a shadowy figure who tells him that he is needed as the heart and soul of X-Force. Sunspot reluctantly follows him. Meanwhile, Siryn regains consciousness in the wreckage of the Xavier Institute and uses her sonic scream to blast her way to the surface. The other members of X-Force appear to be dead. Siryn telepathically contacts Cable for help, but he is busy in New York and cannot assist. Meltdown is in a landscape where she continually torments and murders Sabretooth, until Sunspot and the shadowy figure come to persuade her to rejoin them. They find Caliban reacting the origin of Superman, with Cable and Domino as the Kents. Warpath is with his elder brother Thunderbird in an Apache Reservation. Mysteriously, Shatterstar is in a pastoral landscape, and only reluctantly agrees to return with them. Domino is in pitch black, and again has to be persuaded to return. The shadowy figure opens a portal and tells them to enter the light. They begin to go, but realise just in time that the figure has been replaced by an imposter - it is really Onslaught trying to lead them into death. They reject him and are returned to life. The true shadow figure appears and explains that he is an aspect of Professor X's childhood goodness and innocence given embodiment as a side effect of Onslaught's possession of the Professor. He protected Siryn with his limited power so that she could go on to save the rest of the team. Then, the figure fades away.
