The Games of Saberhaven
News on the Streets
April - June 1998
- (6/5/98) The Knight of the Black
Rose, Sir Garamore, left for home today without qualifying for the tournament.
A priestly advisor to his order, Raston, arrived a couple of days ago
and reportedly told Garamore to return to Highland for a local dispute.
Garamore is not expected to return for the Summer Tourney.
- (6/2/98) In one of the closest
matches in recent history, the Aasimar called Laereth, in a rematch
against the man who previously defeated him, fought The Warlord, one
of Saberhaven's best known competitors. The fight came right down to
the end with a slight advantage going to The Warlord, who barely managed
to finish off his opponent. Both are expected to perform extremely well
in the upcoming tournament.
- (5/30/98) In a shocking fight
between two mul gladiators, the newcomer Ebrecus Keldar severed the
torso of Romus Todd slave Bazoo. Watch for developments on whether Bazoo
can be healed and revived.
- (5/29/98) As the summer tournament
draws nearer, the out-of-town contengencies start arriving. The Snow
Dwarf contingent, lead by King Kovak Kopper himself, arrived late last
night. Also spotted in town are the Crusaders of Meph.
- (5/26/98) A new contingency has
formed called "The Warriors of the Mind". Formed as an alliance
between psionic and spellcasting combatants, the Athesian halfling Tak'Nak'Raq
enlisted the forcemage/monk Morann and the Archdruid Quim as the first
members.
- (4/30/98) With the addition of
another Aasimar to the newcomers roster, along with the three Tieflings
who qualified for the tournament recently and a man who calls himself
a "Rager", it's obvious that there is a steadily growing interest
in the Games through the outer planes.
- (4/28/98) A man calling himself
Prince Kroobor arrived in town today in preparations for the upcoming
tournament. The tall stranger claims to be the crown prince of a land
in the far west and travels only with his kobold servant.
- (4/27/98) Word is spreading through
the city that several humanoid mercenary groups have decided to sponsor
champions from their ranks.
- (4/22/98) In a speedy victory,
the Aasimar Latherin Dark defeated the former assassins guildmaster
Mallor Dunadan. Using enchanted dust to make himself invisible, Dark
appearantly scared the man into shock, then used several hand crossbow
bolts with sleep poison to finish him off. Dark won his freedom.
- (4/21/98) Reports from the tavern
Planejumper tell of a group of five Tieflings recently arrived in Saberhaven.
They supposedly plan to compete in the Games. Watch for upcoming events.
- (4/19/98) Lord Mayor Malor Slonhouser
announced today the opponant for convincted thief Latherin Dark. Mallor
Dunadan, the former Guildmaster of the Association of Problem Eliminators
(APE), will match the thief in a contest for Dark's freedom. If he loses,
Dark will die.
- (4/17/98) The Iceling Jurak Snowaxe
was purchased today by Romus Todd, the gladiator slave master. Snowaxe
was formerly owned by an unnamed group of Minotaur traders who brought
the Iceling into town last week with a supply trade. The Minotaurs reportedly
left Saberhaven for Highland, not intending to keep the Iceling with
them on their return trip.
- (4/16/98) A thief was caught
last night in the home of Lord Mayor Malor Slonhouser. The man named
Latherin Dark was sentanced to fight to the death in the arena to win
his freedom. Dark recently arrived in Saberhaven and is of an extra-planar
race known as Aasimar. The fight is expected to begin sometime in the
next few days.
- (4/12/98) After a humiliating
defeat at the hands of Harumph, the force mage-monk Morann reportedly
requested a rematch with the half-giant. The slave master Romus Todd
was heard to say, "I see no point in rematching a fool like you."
He did, however, grant a match with another of his gladiator slaves,
the manpian Kraag.
