Docks Ablaze!

A large blazed through the heart of Avondale docks yesterday evening. Early reports have it that the fire started in McGreggor's warehouse a few hours after sundown. Almost immediately the brave people of our fair city were on hand to do what they could. The garrison under the command of Castellan Dalyor organised a bucket chain but this had little effect on the blaze. The neighbouring shops and houses were evacuated as the fire was expected to spread rapidly. Further disaster was spared by the arrival of The Lord Guardian Of The Western Hills, Kesryk. His powerful magics soon dampened down the blaze and brought the first rain for several months.

Casualties

As yet only two casualties have been reported both guards on duty at the time the blaze started. One is said to be in a serious condition and has been taken to the clerics of Yamuga for treatment. The other is recovering at home. Things could have been much more serious given the prolonged drought that has afflicted our islands in recent weeks.

Rumours

Sources close to the garrison have hinted that an elf was responsible for the fire. They state that one of these foul creatures was taken away by the Castellan for questioning. The Times is concerned that the Castellan's known soft hearted nature may prevent the complete truth from emerging. It has been suggested that the elf was attempting to destroy a consignment of Dwarven lamp oil that had been stored in the warehouse, this would explain the fierceness of the blaze.

Baron Stabbed!

At about the same time that the blaze in the warehouse broke out Baron Jubfek of Avondale was stabbed at his mansion. Very little is known of his asailent at present except that she was an elf. It has been reported that the Baron, despite his serious stab wounds dragged himself to the Bridge Inn, a haunt of criminals as it has been pointed out in the Times on many previous occasions, to confront his attacker. he was lucky that a cleric of Koryis was on hand to heal the wounds he had suffered but alas the elf had escaped. He has been able to give a description of the attacker as of being just above five foot in height, lean of build with a distinctively scared face. She has also one of the Baron's daggers in her possession.

Reward!

The Baron has offered a reward of 200 crowns for the capture of the elf. He would prefer her alive so that she can be publicly executed as befits her kind.

The Times Says!

Enough is enough! There are some alive today that lived through the Great Plague. They know that the elves were behind that disaster and were disgusted that they got away with it. Now even on the Free Isles where they have been treated well they try to destroy our livelyhoods and even make attempts on high ranking figures such as the Baron. We say it is time to rid the Isles once and for all of these foul creatures. Burn down Deepdale, put the pointy eared devils onto a boat and sail them to The Isle Of Ashes.

Late News

A large crash was heard this morning from the temple of Koryis. It is rumoured that Castellan Dalyor took the elf firestarter there after arresting her. Has she caused more trouble in one our finest buildings? Strange goings on have been reported from there during the night from sources close to Rhodoban, the head cleric. A strange group of people, including two elves were seen talking with Rhodoban until the early hours of this morning. Rhodoban is a man that needs watching. He is an outsider whose behaviour is eccentric to say the least. If anyone has information that our readers may find useful contact the editor.
