Awaiting the Dragon

Awaiting the Dragon

She sits alone watching the sky
Thousands of birds and bats fly by
Her eyes glance briefly then flicker away
They keep scanning over the sapphire bay.

Off to the side a spot appears
Growing larger as it draws near
Her eyes light up as all else blurs
The dragon of myth is finally here.

The rarest of beasts it's beauty is clear
It dips and soars as she watches in awe
She reaches out but she cannot get near
She cries out but he cannot hear.

Wish as she might he will not come near
This mighty creature is not meant for her
He heads back from where he came wither
Resigned she sits back to wait for another.
