Never Dead

"Doctor you're being most illogical," Spock's forever calm voice stated.

"I am not!" McCoy yelled back. "It deserves to die! Think of the pain it's caused, the destruction it's wreaked! I'm sorry, Spock, but you just don;t have to the authority."

"Bones," Kirk said from across the room, "don't be hasteful!"

"I've thought about it long and hard, Jim. And every time I come to the same conclusion: it can't be allowed to live. It must die."

Kirk put up his hands in a sign of yielding. Bones picked up a nearby instrument and slowly brought it to the thing on the examing table. His hand was shaking, his brow was drench with sweat, and his breath halted. Slowly, he took the pen in his hand and crossed out a line in the script.

McCoy let out a huge sigh of relief. Kirk patted him of the back. "You did it," he congratulated.

McCoy smiled, "I did, didn't I?"

The line now crossed out from the page had read, "He's dead, Jim."
