CyberPunk is an interesting and important genre in Science Fiction. I've been fascinated by it for a long time, noticing the curious parallels between our own world and those of Stephenson, Sterling, Gibson et al. I'm not going to elaborate or summarise the whole genre, if you know the subject then it would be pointless, if you don't then I would suggest you go out and learn... pick up a copy of Neal Stephenson's "Snow Crash" or William Gibson's "Neuromancer" or any of the hundreds of great books out there. I've written stuff on the subject, in an Artistic context, so I guess I could have written something... but I'm just a lazy graduate programmer and art historian bashing out HTML with an Amiga and a copy of EMACS. This page is intended to provide links to cyberpunk authors and information, as well as real-world activities of a cyberpunk feel - for example, the Human-Machine interfacing undertaken by performance artist Stelarc. It is not just about CyberPunk the literature movement, but CyberPunk the subculture (and I use the term 'subculture' in a good way). CyberPunk is a movement of expression and exploration, so go out and explore/express!!! A quick apology: This is not even close to a good coverage of the subject, but I was pressed for time and felt it was best to get down an incomplete, but useful, set of links than have none at all! As part of the update of my Science Fiction pages, I will be updating this information soon... |
