Storm stayed close by her side in case she needed her throughout the whole time. To Storm, she looked normal. There had been no bouts of the violent nausea that had plagued Rogue for the last couple of days. So, she let her handle her own toiletries while she had changed the linen on the bed.
Storm found a small afghan on the top shelf of Remy's closet. She spread it out across Rogue's lap. "Must not let you catch a chill." She advised.
"Thank yah Sugah." Rogue helped her smooth out the coverlet over her.
"You are quite welcome." She smiled. "Is there anything else I can do for you?"
"Nah ... Ah'm fine. You've done enough. Why don'cha sit and keep me company?" Rogue gestured to the chair.
"I think I will." Smiled back Storm. She relaxed into the wing chair that faced Rogue. She looked all around her. There were several books on Rogue's night stand. "What are those?"
Rogue followed Storm's train of vision. "Oh! These? They are some books Henry brought me to read." She picked the top book up. "A little light reading," she joked. "Yah Baby and You." She passed the book on to Storm. "So Yah're Having Twins?" ... "From Zero tah Cradle: The First Nine Months of Life." She passed each one on to Storm. "Now here's one ... 'Raising Yah're Child Proper.' " She made a face as she passed the last book to Storm.
Storm chuckled. "That sounds interesting."
Rogue laughed. "Now how do yah figure that anything that comes from me and Remy will be 'proper'?"
Storm laughed with her. "Can you not see two little boys running around charging and blowing up everything in sight."
Rogue giggled. "Or can yah see two little girls flying off with us in 'hot pursuit' trying tah catch them."
Storm wiped the laugh tears from her eyes as she sobered. *ahem* she cleared her throat before she spoke. "As a matter of fact Rogue ..." She leaned forward, placing a hand over Rogue's gloved one. "... I can."
Rogue smiled to her friend. "So can Ah Storm ... so can Ah."
Gambit limped up the stairs to the second floor's landing. He turned to the right, heading for his room and a change of clothes. Dis ain't gonna work if I can ignore de pain, he thought. His reflection caught his attention in one of the hall's mirrors. Henry did a good job wit' my face. If I can stay away from her, she wan' see dat I hurt.
Remy stopped in front of his door. Welp, here goes. He fixed a permanent smile on his face as he opened his door.
Both Storm and Rogue turned toward the door when they heard him enter. "Hello Remy," Storm called out over her shoulder.
Gambit came to stand beside her. He didn't trust himself any closer to Rogue. "Afternoon Stormy." Then he focused on the woman laying on the bed. "How'ya feel'in Chere? Were ya able tah keep ya breakfast down?"
Rogue crossed her arms in front of her, "Yah've been avoiding me Lebeau."
She going straight for the juggler. "Nah I haven't ..." He tried to explain. "... been busy."
"Too busy tah come see if'in Ah'm dead or alive?"
"Too busy to come see about your expectant fiancé?" Asked Storm. "Tsk, tsk, tsk," She shook her white crowned head from side to side.
"Dat's not wha' I said Stormy. Don' put words in my mouth." He warned.
"So ... what'cha been up tah?"
"Went for a ride on de Harley." He pushed from beside Storm's chair. Gambit gritted his teeth when he turned his back toward them. He made his way to his closet. "Bish and me goin into town for a while." He flinched as he reached up on the shelf to retrieve a clean shirt. Remy turned slightly back in Rogue's direction. "Ya need anyt'ing while I out?"
"No." She said quietly. "No'thin."
Storm was about to blow a gasket. She sat up in her seat then leaned to one side over the arm, "What is the matter with you? What happened to your uniform?" She demanded.
Gambit stopped what he was doing. Ah Stormy ... ya gonna give me away! "Nut'in ta matta wit' me. I fine. He quickly grabbed the rest of his clothes then made a painful dash for the bathroom.
Rogue tried her best to ignore his indifference toward her. She pretended to play with the fringes on the coverlet in order to distract her from Remy's attitude.
Something is wrong. Remy would never act this way. He would never knowingly ignore Rogue for any reason. Unless ... he is trying to hide something ... that is it!
Gambit came out of the bathroom, fully changed. He winked at Storm as he passed by Rogue's bed. "I bring back lunch wit' me Chere. Anyt'ing in particular ya wan'?"
Rogue never looked up. "No Remy." She slowly shook her head.
Gambit grabbed his wallet from the corner of the chestier bureau. "O.K. I ough'ta be back in an hour." He made his way to the door. "Later Chere." He let the door close between them.
Rogue had held back as long as she could. She threw herself head long down into the pillows. She burst open, sobbing sadly.
"Now Rogue..." consoled Storm. She got up to comfort Rogue then it hit her. She held up one finger, "I will get to the bottom of this. I will be right back." She turned on her high heels then trotted out of the door.
Ut Oh! Gambit recognized the tone in Storm's voice. It was the one she always used whenever she was ticked off. He waited patiently for her to catch up with him mid-way down the main stair case.
Storm came to stop below Gambit. She thought she'd try to block his exit if he tried to go pass her. "Now ..." She pointed one long, red fingernail at him. "... are you going to tell me what you are up to ..." She placed her hands on her hips. "... or will I have to torture it out of Bishop?"
Gambit figured that he might as well tell her because he knew Bishop wouldn't stand a chance at keeping anything from her once her mind was set. "All raht ... all raht." He let out a long breath. "I sort of totaled my bike dis morn'in."
"What?" She exclaimed. "Are you all right Remy?"
"Ssssshh!" He guiltily looked around. "Don' tell Chere. I'm fine, 'jis a little banged up."
"But do you not think she has a right to know?"
"I don' wan' Rogie ta find out before I get ano'tha one. If she does, she want let me get a new one. She may even make me sell the Ninja. Maybe even de Ghini." He reasoned.
"Now Remy, what makes you think that?"
"She always saying how she didn't like my toys. Dat it's time I grew up. In her state of mind, being all emotional ... she make me buy a Mini Van." He shook with disgust as he thought about 'Car Pools' and 'PTO' meetings. "I like my toys Stormy."
Storm pointed upstairs toward Rogue's room. "She is upstairs now, crying her eyes out because you seemed so distant. How are you going to fix that? And stop calling me Stormy!"
"Oh." He raised his browse in surprise. "I t'ink of some'thin. He started to pass her. "Tell her I be back ta sit wit' her de rest of de day when I get back." Remy trotted to the bottom of the steps. "I got ta go. Bish waitin!" He called as he turned left toward the back hallway.
Storm watched him disappear out of sight. The she turned to go
back up the stairs to Rogue's room. Now what am I suppose to tell
Rogue? She looked at her watch. Where is Jean at anyway?
Warren Worthington, III was on his way downstairs when he passed the open door of Rogue's bed room. Normally, he would never invade someone's boudoir, but he heard the distinct sound of someone crying.
Warren pulled his wings in as he paused at the door. "Knock, knock."
Rogue looked up to see him standing in her doorway. She hurriedly grabbed some tissues out of her box. "... Come ... in." She sniffed.
He came all the way in. "Hi Rogue."
"... Hi ... Warren."
"I heard about your babies. That's wonderful news. Congratulations."
She smiled. "Thank yah."
She must be upset about Gambit's wreck. "You shouldn't be crying over Remy's wrecking his bike."
She suddenly sobered. "His bike?"
"He didn't get hurt. From what I saw, the bike took most of the impact."
Rogue's brain took off in a mad rush to piece the last fifteen to twenty minutes together. That's why his clothes were a mess and that's why he was in such a hurry. He wanted to leave before Ah found out. Why that low life, sneaky, low down, lying Cajun Swamp Rat! Ah'm gonna ...!
"Would you like for me to get you something? I was on my way downstairs and I thought I'd check on you."
She grinned sweetly at him. "No thank you Warren. Ah'm fine, 'jis fine."
"Are you sure?" She nodded to him. "O.K." He turned on his heels to leave. "It's mine and Betsy's day to sit with you tomorrow. See you then." He waved bye from the door.
"All raht. Bye Warren."
He nearly ran smack into Storm on her way back in. "Excuse me," she stepped to one side.
"Excuse me," he bowed then moved out of her way. "Lady's first."
"Thank you." Storm close the door between them.
"Did yah get tah talk tah Remy?"
"... Yes ..."
"Did he say anything?"
Storm was trapped. She did not want to betray Remy's trust, but then she also did not want to keep anything from Rogue.
Rogue watched the different expressions on Storm's face. "It's all raht Sugah ... Warren told me 'bout the wreck."
