David's Speech Yeah, I've been saying The X-Files is a funny show for six years. [audience laughs] Sweet vindication. Um, I want to thank my agent, [David hurried over this part so I couldn't make out her name], but I want to dedicate this to my manager, Melanie Green, who's made it her life's mission for the past ten years to tell people that I'm funny. [audience laughs] And I can't think of a worst job that there is to try to convince other people that another person is funny. So Mel, this is for you, you convinced one person at least. And I want to thank Garry Shandling, who's such a pleasure to work with. I learned more about being funny by seeing Garry...naked. [audience laughs] I learned more about being funny by watching Garry work, and also, oddly enough, from my wife Tea Leoni in these past two years, and I hope to keep learning. So, thank you. Thank you very much. |

David's Speech Thank you. Um, I'd like to...I'd like to thank my hairstylist. I'm sorry, I dozed off, this is for best hairdo isn't it? Thank you. I have to thank Gillian Anderson, who gets either the bottom half or the top half of this, I don't know which, and espcially Chris Carter, as well. It's his sixth year of the show, and he stayed with it, and that's really important to us all. Melanie Green, Risa Shapiro...Thank you. And my wife, Tea, who's at home making a baby tonight so she couldn't be here. (Audience seems upset) That's actually a good thing. And um...can you please have that one woman removed, just that one woman right there? Alright...and I'd like to that whoever, uh, thought of having Jena Elfman present to me because she's the only woman who could make me appear short. Thank you. And thanks to all the fans. Thank you very much. |

The Web Site Awards
Gillian Anderson Bedazzles the New Media First there were the Emmys, then The People's Choice Awards, and now it's The Web Site Awards. With the advent of the World Wide Web, star recognition has become increasingly democratic. The Internet is the perfect forum for fans and critics alike to obsess about their favorite or most-hated actors. And with this in mind, the AP recently made an informal Yahoo! search of star Web sites. Its findings could serve as the beginning of a new and important standard: The Web Sites Awards. In this first competition, The X-Files's Gillian Anderson claims the top award for the most sites. Anderson has 99, which noses out second-place Alicia Silverstone's 91 and far exceeds Pamela Anderson Lee's 67 (tied with Hanson). Fifth-place Teri Hatcher has 53. Jon Katz, the media critic for Hotwired Magazine, believes the Net "takes power away from the big celebrity machines and puts it in the hands of the fans." In other words, instead of a few media giants determining the fate of a handful of stars, fans everywhere can be involved in publicizing their favorite actors or actresses. - Kelley Tice |
