The Uncanny X-men #260

  • Value in 1990: $1.00
  • Value in 1999: $5.00
  • Writer: Chris Claremont
  • Penciler: Marc Silvestri
  • Characters: Dazzler, Guido, A crazy lunitic, and some guy named Fred. Also appearances from Colossus, Forge, and Banshee.
  • Events: There is this crazed man named Eric Beazle who is determined to kill Dazzler. He sets up to sniper her while she's surfing (ahh the early 90's). Of course the guy misses, Dazzler and Guido realizes she's being stalked so dazzler come up with the brilliant plan to lure him out by promoting her new film publicly. Her plan works a little two well when she is knocked on conscious by the nut while strolling on the beach. The man bounds her and covers her face with a mask, discovering that she can't fight her way out of this one Dazzler soothes the man with beautiful colors; Crisis averted.
There are also some secondary plots which include Colossus and a gang of thugs, and another with Banshee and Forge who escape a plane explosion.
  • My thoughts: In the begining I got to see Dazzler blown to pieces by the crazy guy ... O.k so they were mannequins, but worked for me. This one was a bit too quirky for me, I mean who wants to see Dazzler in a Body Glove suit surfing? Dazzler also went to interviews, a Western movie set, and used stupid phrases such as, "... stroboscopic flashbulb dazzle-blast." Like what the hell?!? No I didn't care for this one.
  • Rating: (and that's only because I enjoyed making fun of Dazzler).

    Uncanny X-men #359

  • Cost:$2.80(can)$1.99(us)
  • Characters:Rogue, Mystique, Cyclops, Phoenix, Wolverine
  • Contents: Rogue wakes up in Doctor Agee's waiting room, she is there to be "cured" of her mutant powers. Meanwhile in Anchorage, Alaska Jean and Scott are coping with the loss of Phoenix's powers due to the disruption of the Psychic Plane.

Just before Rogue undergoes Doctor Agee's procedure a nurse takes out a machine gun and goes postal. Rogue saves the Doc and chases after the woman who is really Mystique. Mystique and Rogue argue, and fight. Rogue steals Mystique's powers and returns to the Mutopia building, she is attacked by soldiers. She touches Doctor Agee and discovers that he was funded by the government, and that his process works. Rogue destroys Agee's machine, deciding that although she may of had a choice she knows others would not be so lucky.

  • What I thought of the book: I'm a big Rogue fan, so I enjoyed this issue. I was getting sick of Rogue's character always wallowing in self pitty and it was nice to see her come to terms with her powers. Mystique always makes a book interesting, and some questions regarding Rogue leaving Gambit in Alaska were answered. What I didn't like was the art change half way through, I like Chris Bachalo's work and would of like to of seen this whole issue done by him.

    The Uncanny X-men #207

  • Value in 1986:$0.95
  • Value in 1999:$4.00
  • Writer: Chris Claremont
  • Penciler: John Romita Jr.
  • Characters:Wolverine, Phoenix(Rachel Summers), Colossus, Shadowcat, Storm, Rogue, Selene(black queen), Collisto and some Morlocks
  • Events: Phoenix is having night mares of her past..er..in the future, she dreams that Wolverine is hunting her down and killing her for the crimes she has commited. She wakes up in her the room the Morlocks have provided her. Wolverine is recovering from some pretty nasty wounds courtesy of Deathstrike, the X-men are staying in the Morlock tunnels until the healer can cure him. Phoenix wonders the streets, sleeps on subways, and then decides to pay Selene of the Hellfire Club a visit. Rachel determined to stop Selene from causing any more harm attacks her. They fight, and fight, Rachel gains the upper hand, and Wolverine intervines. The ending is really neat.
  • What I thought of the book: The book was dark, and violent, if you like that combo then this is the book for you. The whole story centers around Rachel Summers, so if you're a Phoenix fan this one is also for you. The ending makes it all worth while to read.

    The Uncanny X-men #230

  • Value in 1988:$1.00
  • Value in 1998:$5.00
  • Writer: Chris Claremont
  • Penciler: Marc Silverstri
  • Characters: Longshot, Madelyne Pryor, Rogue, Gateway, Havok, Dazzler (ick), Colossus, Wolverine, and Psylocke.

Events: The story begins with a training exercise in their new head quarters at the Reavers old base in Australia. Longshot discovers a cave filled with stolen loot, he gets images of past owners through these objects ... On the eve of Christmas the X-men decide to return these objects to their rightful owners. Wolverine gives Dazzler a bike, and Rogue bonds with Gateway.

  • What I thought of the book: I suppose I am a bit biased concerning this book, I absolutely love the late 80's X-men, they are so corky. It's also written by Chris Claremont, and penciled by marc Silvestri, an added bonus.
