Self-Dedication Ritual

This is a simple ritual for a beginning witch. It will work for either eclectic paganism of solitary Wicca; thus, it can be changed accordingly to adapt to whatever means the dedicatee is desiring.

Required Items:

four white alter candles
one center candle (spirit candle) preferably white
small amount of oil (oil can be homemade or store-bought, but it must be an essential oil.)
five thin cords of the following colors (white, blue, brown, green, pink)
incense (preferably something earthy i.e.; sandalwood, dragon's blood)
sage
a chosen name that you will be known in circle from this point forth
an athame or another sharp-edged cutting instrument that has been blessed

The Rite:

~When all items are gathered, cleanse your body of unnatural things by bathing in a mixture of salt and flower petals. Dry yourself with a blessed, clean towel. You may clothe yourself in ritual clothing of white cotton or hemp or you may perform the ritual skyclad (i.e.; nude)

~Set up your alter with the spirit candle in the center and the four white candles at the cardinal directions (i.e.; north, east, west, and south)

~Cleanse the sacred space with sage and bless the room by saying the following words...

"Mother Goddess, Father God, please accept this space as part of thy divine castle. Cast away any negativity in this realm and protect me in this rite."

~Cast the circle.

~Call the Lord and Lady into the circle by repeating the following words...

"Mother, father, come and join me in this magickal space. Join me in this rite and protect me from harm as I pledge myself to thee."

~Kneel before your alter and repeat the following words...

"I pledge myself, mortal and immortal, to the Lady of the Earth and the Lord of the Skies. I pledge myself and ask that you guide me in my life and my ways. Protect me as I protect thy name and save me as I wish to be saved. Enter me into thy ranks of sisterhood and brotherhood. Guide my hands. May my service always please you. May my actions always follow in thy footsteps."

~Take the cords in you hands and bless it by saying the following words...

"Purest white, the color of the tops of the waves, the color of the purity of my mother and father. Blue of the ocean, guide my voice. Pink of life light up my world and endeavor to lift my heart to the heavens. Brown of the earth, center me and ground me for I am seeking guidance. Green of the trees, give me the life eternal of your fertility."

~Tie the white cord around your forehead and repeat the following words...

"With the purity of this cord I ask my heavenly parents to give me purity of mind and the knowledge to seek greatness and truth in all things."

~Tie the blue cord loosely about your throat and repeat the following words...

"With the richest of blues I ask you mother and father to lift my voice to the sky and to teach me to keep my words honest and true. May I inspire others to seek the same."

~Tie the pink cord around your chest near to your heart and repeat the following words...

"Spirit of pink, giver of life, give me the faith to forgive and the courage to forget. Fill me with the love to fill others and myself with friendship and peace. May my heart and soul be one as I walk through this life."

~Tie the brown cord around your stomach and repeat the following words...

"Mother, father, give me the strength to be stable and strong in a fast-paced world. Give me the strength to be free, yet grounded to thy bountiful earth."

~Tie the green cord about your hips and repeat the following words...

"May my womb be full of your light and life. (if you are male: May my manhood be virile and strong.) May I remain strong and healthy so I can bear the children of your graces. May I not deny myself the beauty that is found in the love of another human."

~Cut the white cord and repeat the following words...
"May my mind be free and open."

~Cut the blue cord and repeat the following words...
"May my voice be free, reborn in my parents name."

~Cut the pink cord and repeat the following words...
"May my heart be free and open."

~Cut the brown cord and repeat the following words...
"I am free in the name of the Lady and Lord."

~Cut the green cord and repeat the following words...
"May my womb be free and healthy."
(male: May my manhood be healthy and my children strong)

~After all the cords are cut repeat the following words...
"In the name of the God and Goddess I am freed. I am bound now by their will. Their will to do good. I am bound now by my promise to live their will. I am part of you, mother. I am you child, father. You have given me life and I now return it to you ten-fold in the good that I shall do on your earth. I am yours in sprit. I am yours in soul. I am yours in name and heart. I am yours three times three. I am yours, so mote it be."

~After those words are spoken meditate softly on your magickal name. When you feel the time has come speak you name to the east and repeat it three times. Do the same for each direction.

~Close the circle.

~Keep your cords as a symbol of your dedication.
