Rework's 2nd Transfan Poll - Final Results - 10/28/99

1) Which name do you prefer?
This report is based on 73 respondents that have visited this page.
44 Respondent(s) Jetfire
29 Respondent(s) Skyfire

I don't know what there is to say about this one. I expected about
these results. Personally, I've always thought "Jetfire" just
sounded better.

2) FIRRIB (TV show) or RIRFIB (Toy package)?
This report is based on 72 respondents that have visited this page.
53 Respondent(s) FIRRIB (TV show)
19 Respondent(s) RIRFIB (Toy package)

Now this one does surprise me. Especially when compared to the first
one. They are very similar questions: Toy name vs. Show name. So why
do so most people think one way for Jetfire and another way for
Rumble... the red one? (I don't care what the poll says: RIRFIB Forever!)

3) Which is your prefered Jetfire/Skyfire origin?
This report is based on 72 respondents that have visited this page.
43 Respondent(s) TV Show Version
12 Respondent(s) Comic Book Version
17 Respondent(s) Toy Commercial: (Built by the Autobots to counter the Decepticon jets)

I like these results. Why? Because I'm happy to see so many Transfans
agree with me that both of the story origins were silly. They should
have kept a nice, straight-forward origin, like the way he was
introduced in the commercial. The show origin was just so contrived
that it was ridiculous.

4) Are the Decepticons Evil?
This report is based on 72 respondents that have visited this page.
49 Respondent(s) Yes
23 Respondent(s) No

After never-ending threads on ATTCM, I had to ask.

5) Favorite G2 toy, not including re-releases or imports:
This report is based on 73 respondents that have visited this page.
15 Respondent(s) G2 Megatron
28 Respondent(s) Laser Prime
8 Respondent(s) Dreadwing
2 Respondent(s) One of the Laser Rods
10 Respondent(s) One of the Cyberjets
0 Respondent(s) One of the Rotoforce
5 Respondent(s) One of the new Autobot cars
3 Respondent(s) One of the new Decep Jets
0 Respondent(s) One of the Color Changers
2 Respondent(s) One of the Combat Heroes

Let me guess, 10 votes for Hooligan? What's up with that one. It's
a nice design, but considering how exceptional the first three toys
on the list are (each in their own way), I'm kind of surprised to
see so may people vote for anything else.

6) Which is your favorite Triple Changer toy? (Only counting the "official" 6)
This report is based on 73 respondents that have visited this page.
32 Respondent(s) Blitzwing
22 Respondent(s) Astrotrain
2 Respondent(s) Octane
13 Respondent(s) Springer
3 Respondent(s) Sandstorm
1 Respondent(s) Broadsides

How many of you have played with a Sandstorm? IMHO, it blows away
Springer any day of the week. And I'm glad to see Broadsides get
a vote. He gets picked on too much.

7) If you just happened to have a Dwarf Hamster, a very nice one that didn't bite, which name would you choose?
This report is based on 73 respondents that have visited this page.
10 Respondent(s) Max
11 Respondent(s) Jazz
6 Respondent(s) Rampage
7 Respondent(s) Frenzy
11 Respondent(s) Prowl
2 Respondent(s) Tantrum
7 Respondent(s) Ravage
13 Respondent(s) Gnaw
5 Respondent(s) Scrapper
1 Respondent(s) Brawn

Well, I just happen to currently have a Dwarf Hamster, a very nice
one who doesn't bite (unlike the last one). His name is Jazz. The
previous one's name was Max (although my wife didn't catch onto
the TF reference until it was too late.)

When I found out that this system had a "check box" option, I thought
it's be cool to see how many people have what. The next few questions
are based on that, and I'll probably do a few questions like this
every time... Maybe picking themes.

8) Which of the following G1 Autobot toys do you have in your collection? (Complete and in nice shape)
This report is based on 72 respondents that have visited this page.
41 Respondent(s) Optimus Prime - original
30 Respondent(s) Jetfire
13 Respondent(s) Whirl
30 Respondent(s) Hot Rod
12 Respondent(s) Fortress Maximus
35 Respondent(s) Powermaster Optimus Prime
15 Respondent(s) Both a red & yellow Bumblebee
11 Respondent(s) Bumblejumper (the squared-off car similar to Bumblebee)
25 Respondent(s) Swoop
18 Respondent(s) Skids

One thing sticks out here: You guys are missing out on Whirl! Whirl
is one of my all-time favorite Transformers. Good size, it looks
great in Helo mode, and has a rather unique, very "mechanical" robot
mode. More articlated than most G1s, and in different ways. Yes,
it's a cyclops (but so is Shockwave, and no one complains about
that). Plus it is VERY undervalued right now. Sure the guides say
$65 loose, but I see them regularly for half that on Ebay. If you
don't have him, check it out.

9) Which of the following G1 Decepticons do you have in your collection? (Complete and in nice shape)
This report is based on 73 respondents that have visited this page.
27 Respondent(s) Megatron - original
31 Respondent(s) Starscream
38 Respondent(s) Soundwave
28 Respondent(s) Shockwave
23 Respondent(s) Trypticon
17 Respondent(s) Scorponok
23 Respondent(s) Scourge (either version)
9 Respondent(s) Blue-eard version Cyclonus
19 Respondent(s) Doubledealer
7 Respondent(s) AM Gutcruncher

I guess Gutcrunchers are tough to find... Not surprising to
see Soundwave as the most "owned" Transformer on this list.
It's a major character, well made, relatively common and
thus, cheap. Plus he gets cameos in the current series!
(Although not very "lively" ones.)

10) Did you have ALL of the toys mentioned in questions 8 & 9?
This report is based on 73 respondents that have visited this page.
5 Respondent(s) Yes
67 Respondent(s) No

I put a few rarer ones in there. Just wanted to see who (else) had them all.

11) Which is your favorite Transformer subgroup?
This report is based on 73 respondents that have visited this page.
27 Respondent(s) Headmasters
20 Respondent(s) Targetmasters
9 Respondent(s) Powermasters
1 Respondent(s) Micromasters
9 Respondent(s) Actionmasters
1 Respondent(s) Pretenders
0 Respondent(s) Animorphs
6 Respondent(s) Fuzors

Notice which got the big goose egg? BTW, I left off Transmetals
on purpose. It's hard to qualify it as a subgroup when its the
only thing out. Plus I though I'd get a less "skewed" result by
sticking to cancelled lines. (With Animorphs what it is, I
didn't see any danger there!)

12) Which is the worst Transformer subgroup?
This report is based on 73 respondents that have visited this page.
5 Respondent(s) Headmasters
0 Respondent(s) Targetmasters
1 Respondent(s) Powermasters
1 Respondent(s) Micromasters
4 Respondent(s) Actionmasters
5 Respondent(s) Pretenders
53 Respondent(s) Animorphs
4 Respondent(s) Fuzors

And we have a winner! Actually it's probably not fair with Animorphs
being the butt of most TF jokes right now. But remember, 8 years ago
AMs were in the exact same position (Heck, if you listed to the
marketing yahoos at BC 98, they couldn't stop making fun of the
toys "they weren't responsable for... but wait till you see these
cool Animorphs!".) Look at them now: tied for 3rd favorite! Not
that Animorphs will do that... will they?

13) If you picked up a sealed G1 toy dirt-cheap at a flea market, what would you do with it?
This report is based on 73 respondents that have visited this page.
21 Respondent(s) Add it to my collection as a MISB toy.
33 Respondent(s) Open it and add it to my collection as a loose toy.
19 Respondent(s) Trade or sell it to get a loose one of the toy plus a few others I need.

Even though "open it" got the most votes, I see this as a good
sign for MISB collectors. Why? Because for all their big talk,
more than half of the people who would find one sealed would
keep it that way! So next time you get picked on for keeping
a toy sealed, remember: YOU ARE IN THE MAJORITY!

14) What is the most money you've spent in one transaction buying Transfomers?
This report is based on 73 respondents that have visited this page.
5 Respondent(s) Less than $25
12 Respondent(s) $25-$49
18 Respondent(s) $50-$99
9 Respondent(s) $100-$199
21 Respondent(s) $200-$499
6 Respondent(s) $500-$999
2 Respondent(s) $1000+

And anyone who doubts those higher numbers can be real, hasn't
heard the rumble (Rumble is red) as they open the doors or seen
the feeding frenzy (Frenzy is blue) at the Japanese table at
a Botcon or Transcon.

15) Hasbro's focus on Star Wars this year has been detrimental to the Transformer line and if it weren't for SW, we'd have seen more and better Transformer toys, shipped on-time.
This report is based on 73 respondents that have visited this page.
21 Respondent(s) Strongly Agree
23 Respondent(s) Agree
19 Respondent(s) I don't know
9 Respondent(s) Disagree
1 Respondent(s) Strongly Disagree

To me this is common sense. Hasbro has a LOT invested in Star
Wars and has to strike while the iron is hottest (in the movie
year). Well, they only have so much to spend on development and
if they already have the #1 toy (talking "boy's toys", here),
what's the incentive to push the others as hard? There are only
so many customer $'s to be had. Now if Hasbro did NOT have SW as
a number one, I guarantee they'd be doing everything they can to
make their next in line be number one. That happens to be
Transformers right now. This is Marketing 101. Maybe 201.
