The newsletter of the Club with NoName......
Look for Updates on Friday January 23, 1998
The Club with no name the next meeting is
Green Hills Library February 11th, 1998
New Day of the week: Wednesday
New Time: 6 pm The meeting doesnt really get started until 6:30
After the meeting place {approximately. 8:30} TBA
Yep we still don’t have a name for this puppy..
But the nominees will appear hear soon
Choosing a name , having elections and working on bylaws will
be the major topic at the meeting.
Sometime in March after we are settled in into our new home,
and have the details we will be conducting a major publicity campaign.
Time to get in some new blood since so much of ours is old and tired.
I have great hopes about our new home.
It is a lot cheaper..just $5 per meeting as opposed to
$175 year at the museum. Plus the parking situation is better.
The library is away from the mall and doesn’t really compete with
parking.
Fans can check out books while at the library...
they get in a lot of the new SF books.
Plus instead of being put into some kind of back room
we will be the only club meeting there that particular night.
And we get to have munchies ..as long as we clean up after ourselves and dont stroll into the library proper with them
The only real drawback will be the time factor.
The museum closes at 8pm..so the after the meeting meeting
will be announced in the flyer.

News from Rivercon
Another piece of news for you:
Kevin Ward has accepted the offer to be
RiverCon XXIII's Artist Guest of Honor.
World Con Bid news...
Enclosed is a letter from the Boston World Con bid committee.
{those receiving the email version can refer to their web site.
http://world.std.com/~sbarsky/location.html
The committee being faced with paying rack rate{over $200 per night}
at the Sheraton-Hynes is considering other options.
Moving the convention to Orlando is the primary option.
Cheaper hotel rates { almost half} cheaper air fare for some fans.
The Orlando fans like the idea, as long as they do not have to
organize it.
But the chair of MagiCon Joe Siclari has already
joined the bid, along with a couple of others.
Fannish news...
A lot of sad news to report this month.
Tom Norris's dad passed away just before Christmas.
Scott Hall a fan from Indianapolis died December 27th.
He was just 27 and had been more active in the SCA then
in fandom since he went to college at Purdue.
He was known as Count Jafar and was the current Middle Kingdom
Crown Prince.
Donna Pass, wife of Randall " weedeater" Pass died Christmas Eve.
They were former Memphis fans, currently living in Georgia
.
Both of them helped out a lot in the Kubla con suite for years.
If you ever went to a Memphis con you probably saw them in the
con suite
there.
I will have more about Scott and Donna in the next newsletter.
On a more happy note
PL Carruthers-Montgomery and Larry Montgomery celebrated their
16th anniversary on January 4.
There are more Francis granbabbies on the way....
Cheryl Liane Laun a.k.a Teddy and Rick Laun are expecting again.
Rumor is that the dad is hoping for a boy after three girls.
Marcy McCoy Illingworth is spending the winter in London with new
husband Tim.
They are packing and transferring his estate to the states.
something every fannish house hold can empathize with is the task
of moving the ' 300 linear feet of books'.

Space news..
On December 16 the Galileo probe made its closest approach to Europa
one of the Jovian moons.
Sir Arthur Clarke featured Europa in 2010 and some of his speculation seems
to paying off.
It appears more likely that there is a liquid ocean underneath the ice
layer.
The Galileo probe had finished its main mission of exploring Jupiter and
and the four moons.
.Io,Callisto,Ganymeade plus Europa.
But NASA
But with an estimated tow years of fuel left NASA is extending the
mission.
All for now folks.....lets have more good news.
The next month..book reviews, movie reviews..ect..
By the way has any one seen the PostMan and care to do a review of it.
Loved the book and it sounds as if Costner messed it up from some of the
reviews.{ Sigh}
Oh by the way I might not be back..
we are having elections..
Who knows some one else may want this job..Hee Hee
