Sunday's battle of dueling miniseries has gone to NBC's ``Witness to the Mob, Part 1,'' which roughed up CBS' ``Only Love, Part 1,'' according to preliminary national Nielsens.
Fox's ``The X-Files'' (10.6 rating, 17 share in homes, 9.8/23 in adults 18-49) dominated both films from 9-10 p.m. in adults 18-49, and Fox won the night in that key demographic by two shares over NBC and ABC. CBS led the night in homes by three shares over NBC.
Part one of NBC's ``Witness to the Mob'' reported an 11.3/18 in homes and a 7.2/18 in adults 18-49, topping CBS' ``Only Love, Part 1'' (10.4/17 in homes, 4.3/11 in adults 18-49).
The results did little to reverse the major trends of this May sweep, in which NBC is a runaway winner and CBS has settled for ordinary numbers.
Up against Sunday's multiple-parters, ABC's broadcast premiere of ``Broken Arrow'' landed a competitive 8.7/14 in homes and a 5.9/14 in adults 18-49. From 7-9 p.m., Disney's rerun of ``The Lion King'' (7.5/14 and 5.1/16) settled for about half its premiere household rating Nov. 3, 1996, but was still the top-rated ``Wonderful World of Disney'' since March 22.
Each household rating point represents an estimated 980,000 homes, or 1% of the country's TV homes. Each adults 18-49 rating point represents 1.23 million viewers, 1% of the U.S. total. A share is the same sort of percentage, except it's measured against only the homes or viewers watching TV during the time slot involved.
