LEGS (the review)-
Legs, as a piece of comic work was good, but not up to the unusually high standards of Mr. Sam Kieth. Had Mr. Kieth had the time to develop the characters of the Father, the Kid, and "Old Joe", it would have greatly strengthened the story. Much like early issues of "The Maxx" the character's back stories have not had the time to unfold and give us greater insight into the character's emotions (which happened to be one of the strengths of Sam's work with The Maxx). Should Mr. Kieth have spread this story accross 3-4 issues, the story would work out better but also might have gotten unneccicarily drawn out; with this comic it was really give and take. However as underdeveloped as the characters were; the story provides us with strong artwork (Mr. Kieth's talent is often quite underestimated) and a strong message about learning to properly use and control something we have, before moving onto something more powerful. In addition to the messages portrayed within, the story itself is both quaint and very cute. It is a nice step away from the run of explicit material in comics today, and I would feel safe giving this comic to a child to show him there are more (and better) things to comics than Poke'mon. Once again, the art is beautiful, and the story holds its own as a very cute and child friendly one. I strongly feel that this comic would be enjoyable to both Kieth purists (Maxxheads) and newcommers to Sam's work. And yes, for those compleate Maxxheads, such as myself, this monster has really big feet.
