Teal'c. EEEEEEEWWW! I must say, I don't approve. I was interested to hear what sort of beard/goatee-type thing he would have. And...when I finally saw his face in a clear enough close-up, I snorted. No, I snorked. I think that's the best word for the noise that came out of my mouth; snork. I mean, okay, the man can have hair if he wants. And yes, I suppose if he *really* wants it in that lateral strip of fuzz he can have that too. But blond? Besides the fact that the three of them combined are even funnier than if there was only one, how do they expect to accurately explain how it got blond in the first place? Well, I have taken it upon myself to explain how it got blond. The answer is this; Teal'c is a natural blond. It makes sense, really. Teal'c's not human, remember (how could we forget?). Just because on *our* planet, those with a large amount of melanin have only black hair doesn't mean it's like that on Chulack! You see? It makes sense. Since we've never seen Teal'c with any natural hair, we can't say that it's black. So it *could* be blond. And, apparently, it is. While we're talking about hair, I like Sam's hair. It's longer, but nice. I've never really been a fan of Sam's hair, to be honest. Actually, I’ve always hated it. So I liked the change now.
The plot was good (although, I never seem to be able to actually recognize a bad plot until it’s three years later, I catch a rerun on in syndication, and I say to myself: how could I watch this stuff?). Sam saved the day again, but we knew she would from the moment she said she’d go. The only problem I had with the solutions; did anyone else think they saved the day without any….oomph? I mean, before you really had any time to get excited and wonder if there was going to be a success, there was one. The way Teal’c and O’Neill were saved was predictable, and everything just sort of wrapped up nice and neat too quickly.
And, one thing I would like to address about the bugs; I don’t like them. I didn’t like them in Nemesis, and I don’t like them now. They lack….charisma. I know that seems kind of strange, but it’s true. I mean, yes, automated destruction is scary, but all these Replicators are really are just the devil incarnate of the Energizer Bunny (well...okay, so the simile is shaky in some areas). I suppose when Thor mentioned previously that there was this horrible thing that they were fighting that was worse than the Goa’uld, my mind conjured up something like Sauron from The Lord of the Rings. The evils that we keep seeing seem to be less and less scary. Is it just me, or do the Goa’uld seem to be sort of pathetic? In my opinion, what we need is for someone from the SGC to be possessed by a Goa’uld. To remind us (and them) that the Goa’uld are evil. Or, we need to see them destroy another world.(do I sound like a man or what? “More carnage!!”) . And, when I say “another world”, I mean a planet, not the Soap Opera. Although, if they want to destroy the TV show too, I won’t complain.
Anyway, I think that pretty much covers it for now. A few smaller points I’d like to address:
- I feel sorry for Daniel (yet again). He doesn’t get a chance to do anything (except for running through the halls and running into people, which I have a suspicion that he has always secretly wanted to do). I enjoyed him stuttering. “The…the…the thingy. Up there! You know! The thing…”
- I can see how they set us up for the Russian involvement. I must say, I have mixed feelings about that. I hope it turns out good. And, if this new character is the Russian counterpart of Carter, let’s hope she wasn’t as annoying as Carter was in the first season.
- I truly enjoy Michael Shanks as the voice of Thor. I’m not sure who thought of it, but let me say “Kudos to you, sir!” Or Ma’am, if it was a woman.
