Return of the Nithians
Background: Ages ago, before they were forgotten by mortals on outer Mystara, the Nithian culture prospered. They colonized other worlds and other planes with the use of giant pyramid ships. They maintained contact with their colonies, both across the seas and across the void of space, through the use of gateway generating artifacts.
When the Nithian empire fell on outer Mystara, not all of its colonies suffered the same fate. Some of them continued to grow and prosper. One such of those colonies was Ebor (pronounced Eb-Or). The Eborians were greatly spiritual people. Although they survived the disaster that befell the Nihians, they did not make it through the crisis unscathed. Powerfull Entropic immortals learned of their existence and traveled to their home world, far from Mystara. They corrupted the Eborian nobility, turning the pharohs into agents of Entropy.
Today Ebor is ruled by priest pharohs, with an iron grip. Their empire stretches across several crystal spheres, but the pharohs have developed a unique way of governing their colonies. Although their portal system was not strong enough to send physical objects through, the Eborian clergy developed a way to send their life forces through. Once a priest's life force has passed through the portal, it can inhabit a specially prepaired mummified body. This is how they rule their people. Even on their own lands, the priests seldom inhabit their own bodies, preferring instead to take residence in an undead form. They are extremely paranoid about people finding their original form, and so go togreat lengths to hide their own bodies.
Plot: An Eborian pyramid ship, long lost and forgotten, makes its way to Mystaraspace and crashes somewhere on outer Mystara. The location is up to the DM, but it should be near some ancient Nithian ruins. Some suggestions are, Ylarum, Thothia on the Isle of Dawn, and the Savage Coast.
Shortly after the crash, the local populace is plagued by hordes of undead. The heros are asked to solve the undead crisis by the locals. When they journey to the source of all of the undead, hey find a great complex left behind by some forgotten civilization. The undead may be cleaned out of this area. If the PCs attempt this they should encounter the Eborian priest (in mummy form). The priest can not be killed (although his mummy form can be). Treat the mummy as a lich with clerical abilities.
The priest mummy has several other mummy bodies stashed away in a safe place. Even if he is defeated, and his body destroyed, the undead problem will not go away. Only by tracking down the crash site, and disabbling the gateway, will the PCs prevail.
