The Luminary
Ability Requirements: Intelligence 14, Wisdom 9 Ability Requirements
Alignment The Divinity of Mankind is a faith of balance, emphasizing thoughtful contemplation over fanaticism. Luminaries must have a neutral component to their alignments. Thus, luminary player characters may be lawful neutral, neutral good, chaotic neutral or true neutral. Neutral evil luminaries exist, though other luminaries actively shun them if they are discovered. Arms and Armor The Divnity of Mankind is not a militant priesthood, but luminaries still have the ability to defend themselves. Their religion looks favorably upon men who are skilled and capable in difficult situations, including combat. The weapons and armor to which luminaries have access represent the standard adventuring gear for the civilized men of Paridon. Luminaries may wear padded, leather or studded leather armor. They may utilize the following weapons: crossbow, dagger, quarterstaff, rapier, short bow, snaplock belt pistol. Spells and Magical Items The spell selection of a luminary is not as broad as that of a traditional cleric, and tends to favor spells with subtle rather than spectacular effects. Luminaries have major access to the spheres of all, charm, divination, healing, protection and thought. They have minor access to the spheres of chaos, law and numbers. Iron Will Luminaries have an inherent strength of will that few can match. All luminaries receive a +4 bonus to their magic defense adjustment, in addition to any bonus from a high Wisdom score. Untouchable Soul The very vital energies of a luminary are hardened against assault from outside sources. Luminaries receive a +1 bonus to their saving throws against level-draining, such as energy drain and the attacks of certain undead. Against level-draining attacks that do not normally allow a saving throw, luminaries may make a save vs. spell with a -4 penalty. Logical Argument One of the most potent and insidious powers of luminaries is their ability to control probability fields by describing their faith's cosmological principles. Three times per day, a luminary can use probability control, as the 4th level priest spell (see Tome of Magic). This ability requires neither a somatic or material component, but the casting time is one round. The luminary must expound upon the metaphysical laws that favor a certain result on the die roll he is trying to affect.
