Now these two are definitely soul mates, and as much as I hate to admit it (because I secretly warp pics of Mamoru next to other people), but they are the perfect couple. I mean, how else would a guy be able to take that whining of Usagi's if he didn't love the girl? And how would Usagi be able to stand Mamoru's...um..his..well, er... Okay, so he's not annoying in any way. The point is, the two were meant to be together.
The whole lovely story takes place in the Moon Kingdom, about 1,000 years ago. Ah, the lovely moon kingdom. Where Prince Endymion (a.k.a Mamoru) and Princess Serenity (a.k.a Usagi) are in love. Endymion is the prince from Earth, and defends the moon with his life. One night, Endymion gives Serenity a moon locket so she'll always remember him. How sweet. And then Queen Beryl has to come along and ruin stuff by being all gushy over Prince Endymion. I mean, ew. That queen needs a plastic surgeon. So when Beryl attacks and asks Endymion to rule with her (to which he replies "no" and calls her cold and bitter) she tries to kill Serenity, and Endymion gets killed in the process, even after Serenity dies. Ah, how incredibly sad. Queen Serenity, heartbroken that her daughter (along with the senshi) are dead, sends them all into the future to have a better life. How sweet and kind of their fair queen. But there would be no place for her in the future. She used her last ounce of strength giving them a better life, and died. (If you ever want to have a crying fest, just watch that episode.)
And then, of course, the Sailor Senshi (plus Endymion) are all sent forward in time and reborn, somehow looking exactly like they did in the Moon Kingdom. (Probably to avoid confusion.) Usagi discovers she's Sailor Moon, and Mamoru becomes Tuxedo Mask. And they fall in love all over again, in a weird, sick, humerous way.
But the fun's just beginning! Now Beryl comes back into the picture and poor Mamoru (who gets fought over in this show like a piece of meat) is captured and brain washed. Wee! After he's done beating up Sailor Moon, she holds out the locket, and he touches it, regaining his memory. Then Sailor Moon kicks that Beryl's ass. Pardon my French. I just love that part. And then, wee! They all get reborn all over again, and it's on to season two!
And there's the magic of Sailor Moon. No matter what anyone ever says, they know that that is the whole greatness of the series. And it's a good thing that Serena gets more mature over the seasons, because if she plans on being Neo-Queen Serenity in the future, she had better not be an airhead crybaby. Especially not when she's got a guy like Mamoru. And gosh darn it, isn't it so sweet when he's always dying for Sailor Moon? (Actually, it's shocking how the two die so much, then come back to life when they get kissed or cried over.) But it's still so sweet!
