Chapter 4

I noticed how long it took for Tobias to morph back. It took at least 10 seconds longer than it did me. I realized how shortly ago they were given the power.

I wiped my mouth in disgust, wrinkling my nose at the bitter taste I had in my mouth.

"I didn't taste good?" Tobias joked. I nodded weakly and gulped some water. "At least you don't have good aim," he said, revealing his cut hand. A wave of guilt swept over me as I realized I could have broken him in two when I lost control.

"Oh my gosh I am so sorry" I said as I reached under my bed for my first aid kit.

"Devon?" he asked in amusement. I didn't realize Devon's name was still on the kit from when he gave me it.

"What? Oh, yeah he's a guy in my..."

"Science class" Tobias finished.

"Yeah... how did you know...?" Tobias looked at me with a knowing look. As I wrapped his hand in gauze I remembered the moth in my room. Then I remembered something else I had said. "How much of that conversation did you hear?"

Tobias just smiled.

"You are enjoying this way to much." I said.

Suddenly there was a knock, actually it was more like a peck, at my window. I knew who it was. I opened the window "Come in." I said. A sparrow and three butterflies fluttered in. They also took a longer time to morph although I noticed Cassie was a little smoother.

Rachel, seeing Tobias's hand, rushed over and demanded what had happened.

As he told her she looked at me with eyes I knew to back away from. "Down kitty." I murmured. Maybe realizing what she was doing she smiled and shrugged it off.

"Well he told me there would be others," I mentioned. Jake looked at me seriously and demanded, "Who told you?"

Rachel and him are really alike, I realized. Aloud I said, "You are the leader aren't you?" I said.

Not waiting for a response I continued, "I was the leader in my last group. Anyway it was Elfangor of course." Everyone exchanged glances and I half expected what came next.

"Elfangor... he, he died." If it weren't such a tragic topic I would've been glad to finally feel a connection with the group. Not knowing what to say.

I was glad Rachel finally broke the ice. "How did you fix my window?" she asked.

I smiled and told her, "I have always have like a, like a power I guess."

"Power? You mean like ESP?" Marco asked. (Something like that,)I thought to him.

" You can do that when you're not in morph?" He asked.

(Yup,) I thought to the group. (You all probably can, it just takes practice. Though I don't do it often because it does take a lot of energy.) I was already sweating.

(Wow,) Cassie thought to me.

(I knew you'd be able to do that. I think you have the power too.) Getting tired, I decided to talk again, "Anyway I've always had it, and I think Elfangor strengthened it. So what happens is I can mend stuff, inanimate and living.

"How do you do it?" asked Cassie, captivated.

"Well if Tobias will let me I could show you." I gave Tobias an inquiring look. He shrugged an ok and I unwrapped his bandage.

"First you have to rub your hands together. I don't know why but it stimulates energy or something." I rubbed my hands together feeling the tingling sensation I knew well. I placed my hands on Tobias' hand and told Cassie, "Then I can't explain it but you'll no how when you try it. It's kind of like morphing, you gotta concentrate." I began to reach into Tobias' wound and ran into a wall.

"Tobias, you have to trust me for this to work." I said. I gave him a deep stare and he gave me an equally intense stare, but I saw behind that stare. I saw fear and pain behind those sensual eyes. I realized all of this about a half a second, but it was the best half a second of my life. Seeing Rachel shifting uncomfortably I broke the connection.

"I trust you," he said. I thought of the phrase "Trust No one" and threw it out the window, exchanging it for "Trust the Animorphs." Again I rubbed my hands and placed them on Tobias' cut. Closing my eyes, I reached inside him and myself and generated an indescribable power. It was more like an emotion really though that doesn't help any, I just felt peace rush through my fingertips and into the cut. When I opened my eyes Tobias' hand was healed.

Now Tobias and I had a connection between us, though I wouldn't tell him.

I don't know why but I have a feeling he would prefer to have that with someone else.

Everyone was looking at us with, well, awe. I shrugged it off.

"Now what happens?" Marco inquired.

"Isn't it obvious?" I raised an eyebrow. "We save the world."
