About the author

Yup, that’s me, big as life on the London Eye. Looks kind of space ship-like doesn’t it? Turned out to be a good back drop to discuss how I got into fan fiction, especially sci-fi fan fic.

I used to live in northern Wisconsin where I worked as a chef. Now I reside in Colorado where I work as a baker for a state college. Not a huge career shift, but one I’ve enjoyed. For you romantics out there, I ended up in Colorado after corresponding through the e-mail with a gentleman who was also into Stargate. We met, fell for each other, and the rest is history. So even if Stargate can’t get Sam and Jack together, it does work as a catalyst for real life relationships :-)!

Fan fiction is an interesting phenomenon. I think I’ve always had the tendency to create stories about TV characters, and sometimes characters I’ve read in books. Wondering what would happen if. . . . Sometimes I would write them down, and sometimes I would just play the scenarios out in my mind. Lately it’s been the former. The interesting part is, I never knew this was a common occurrence. I thought no one was as “geeky” as me to actually think about TV characters enough to work out situations and a plot for them. Discovering fan fic was a revelation. There was actually a term for what I was doing instead of my homework! Star Trek was my first love since it originally aired, which translated into getting hooked on the rest of the series. While Voyager is the only Trek I’ve written fic for, I’ve enjoyed each incarnation. I then moved onto Babylon 5, which I also tried writing some fic for, but Joe Strazynski pretty much covered things in his show. There wasn’t much room for speculation. And then came Stargate which has left plenty of room for what if.

Other hobbies I enjoy are pottery, gardening and just about any pastime that allows my mind to wander, leaving time to speculate on all those T.V. characters. As long as there are shows that need reading between the lines, there will be fan fic. Some of it may be mine.
