Bashir is feeling depressed at the thought of turning 30. On the eve of his birthday, a Lethian tries to buy some medical supplies off him, which the doctor refuses. Later, when he returns to the infirmary, he finds the Lethian raiding his supplies, and is attacked viciously. When Bashir comes to, the station seems completely wrong: the station is in ruins, abandoned except for a few members of the crew who are acting wildly out of character, and Bashir's age is increasing rapidly. Bashir soon realizes that the crew members are in fact facets of his own personality superimposed upon the characters he identifies them with. Sisko is the finest part of Bashir, strong, wise, and confident, Kira is his aggressive nature, Dax is a pure intellectual, and Garak turns out to be his inner demons.
