Area51 is one of the largest neighborhoods within Geocities. With new suburbs going public every other month, the growth is not showing any signs of letting up. Among the hundreds of thousands of sites that belong within the boundaries of Areaa51, there are many who show exceptional talent and design. To reward those who have placed a great deal of thought and effort into designing a compelling site, I give this award: The Corona Award. Its meaning is apparent, these sites are the cream of the crop, the crowning glory of Area51. To win this, the site must display impressive depth and cleverness of design. There are several such places in Area51, and this is the forum to showcase some of the best.

Kelpie's World Kelpie's world is pastel and quiet, beautiful pieces of original art feed the eye's need, while her subtle style slowly captures the imagination. For a neighborhood that uses predominantly black and dark colors for themes, Kelpie's World stands out as a lovely example of a new approach to design. It's a corner of the web dedicated to fantasy and sci-fi art and some other pieces of literature. Though not so incredibly deep in terms of content, each section has interesting graphics to see and admire. For unpretentious prettiness, clean, crisp, cute design and a refreshing originality, Kelpie's World is small but rainbowy, a real treat to see. 12/29/98

Beta's Voyager Database Beta's attention to detail and impeccable taste serve him well in this well-designed Voyager site. Assiduously kept up to date, this site has an extensive section devoted to news regarding the status of the ship lost in the Delta Quadrant. An even larger database fills out the site with background information about the Voyager's crew, her status, and her alien encounters. There are plenty of things for the casual onlooker to do too, as visitors can link up with Trek penpals, vote in the current poll, or see how Neelix measures up against Seven. The stylish layout and fascinating content make this site a place to visit often 1/6/99
Star Wars: The Imperial Information Centre Star Wars fans have had less of the luck Star Trek fans enjoy. With only three movies to work with, their material is more limited than us Trekkers. Yet, because of the immense "cool" factor that is inherent in every detail within Star Wars, the three movies have captivated the imagination of two generations. With the new movie coming out, the numerous SW fans are making noise on the Net again. Among them, Nick, the webmaster of this site, is making a few waves of his own with an impressive site that stands among the best of Area51. With a cross-referenced profile of every living, mechanical, or even dead character in Star Wars, Nick has a database of enormous proportions, even more impressive because he wrote them all. But that is only a fraction of what his excellent site offers. The design is pleasing, and navigation simple. I have enjoyed all my visits there, and every time I find something new to admire. 12/27/98
