There are innumerable Star Trek sites out in the Internet, and each is crafted with the care and love of Trek enthusiasts. Of the many, there are individual sites that stand out from the rest, either by their content, layout, or the combination of many elements. The "Vision of Trek" award was designed to award those who have gone above and beyond, providing the Internet with truly enjoyable sites that promote the spirit of Star Trek. The picture on the left is a sample of the award given. There are four classes: gold, silver, bronze, and honoree. Each represents a different level of website achievement, but all winners have worthy sites that are honored in the winner's list. The honoree award is given to those sites which, though not quite able to garner the tricolor awards shown here, nevertheless display good work and potential. Gold and Silver award winners will have the added benefit of being listed automatically within the Links page.

To apply for the Vision of Trek award, your site must satisfy the following criteria: |
Originality
I've been to hundreds of Trek sites and I am always on the lookout for original ideas in them. Altogether too many look almost identical, and even more have more or less the same concept behind the making. I appreciate sites that give me something new to see.
|
Content
The site must be a purely Star Trek site. No hybrids please. If you have an inordinately large amount of pages devoted to Star Trek, you may apply, but the site will not be eligible for a gold award. It must not be commercially oriented nor should there be any pornography and other distasteful elements within.
|
Style
Though content will always remain my number one consideration in giving awards, the layout and style of the site will be nearly as important. Graphics should ideally be mostly original, and the layout be distinctly unique. However, I don't ask for stunning graphics, just as long as it promotes the reading of the text and stays unobtrusively in the background, it's fine. |
Function
Sites that are heavily under construction will not be considered for the award. All good sites are constantly under construction, and if you have to warn visitors about the extent of the site reconstruction, you shouldn't apply for this award yet.
|
Quality
Quality is the harmonic combination of all the elements that set apart average sites from superior sites. Clear navigation, clarity of writing, distinctive graphics, original ideas, and volume of content all contribute to this characteristic.
|
Subjectiveness
I am a fan of everything science-fiction, in particular Star Trek. However, even someone as eclectic as I with regards to this genre of websites have my own likes and dislikes. The final decision about what to award the applicant, if any, will rest solely on whether I liked it or not.

Answer to "Vision of Trek" question
This is something I've always wanted to ask fellow Trekkers about: What do you see Star Trek as? A vision of a possible future, an adventure away from this lonely planet? What makes Star Trek so compelling to you? Please answer this question briefly in a few sentence, as I will post it in the winners list next to the winners' sites. |
