Tom's Baby Care Lesson Copyright by Jan Monroe, August 6, 1999
Computer Begin Log:
Mary is six weeks old today.
I was in engineering today picking up reports and Tom had Mary in our quarters. Tom learned a very valuable lesson in child care today. He learned never to pick up a crying baby with out a diaper. I had just come in when she let him have it. He had her on his shoulder, rubbing her back when it happened. He got a double dose of mess. She vomited on his shoulder and peed on his chest. She then sneezed once and promptly fell asleep. She became the sleeping angel and he was a walking disaster area. That was as flustered as I've ever seen him with the baby. I do admit that he did finish putting her down for her nap before going and cleaning up.
Tom claimed to have read the child care manuals but the practical child care seems to elude him. He does learn from experience, so I never expect to see that stunt again. He also learned never to put the baby on his bare chest. Two tiny hands pulling handfuls of chest hair convinced him that it was a bad idea.
I get to go back to work, part time, next week. This is a very good thing....I'm going nuts. I love Tom and I love Mary but, get real, the most adult conversation I've had in weeks was when people asked how I like being a new mom.
Couldn't someone else have a scandal or just a small--public-- break up? Something to get the focus off us and on to someone else, just for a day or two.
Computer, end log.
