Information listed in the below states were compiled from a number of Internet sources that have databases listing reported sightings. Due to a number of duplications of sighting reports in those various sources, it is somewhat difficult to give credit where credit is due to the originating source. Therefore, this site acknowledges and gives credit to all the sources of these reports presented to you collectively now, as I cannot determine the origin of each particular sighting report: National UFO Reporting Center, MUFON, NH MUFON, MA MUFON, VT MUFON, CT MUFON, Miningco.com's UFO/Alien web site, Magonia, Project Bluebook, Filer's Files, National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena, and anyone else who made a report or who I missed ! Plus, we can't forget the people that had the sighting experience and had the courage to come forward and report their incident so the world could know.

RHODE ISLAND Reports sorted by LOCATION
Location | Date | Description |
Charlestown | 2000 March 31 | At around 5:05 am two witnesses were driving down coastal Rte 1 when at the Westerly/Charlestown border they saw a softly glowing orange object directly in front of them. They were traveling due east. They watched it steadily for ten minutes. When they first saw it, it was the size of a aspirin at arm's length. The road was winding at times and the object would disappear behind pine trees. When the road would turn back due east it would appear again in the exact same spot. It was totally motionless and stationary in the sky. They watched it until the Perryville turnoff came up. By this time it was the size of a quarter at arm's length. Just before they turned off a vertical gray bar appeared at the front of the object and immediately moved to the rear. When this happened the object faded, came back and then disappeared. The object tilted about a 10 degree angle to the horizon front to back and about 20 to 25 degrees above the horizon. The sky was clear with no other objects such as airplanes or balloons were in view. There was a solid bank of low clouds on the horizon up to about 5 degrees. The object was well above the cloud bank. They estimated that they covered about 10 miles from beginning to end of the sighting and also figured that the object would be in the vicinity of East Matunuck and Point Judith Pond. This is very close to the ocean. - NUFORC |
Charlestown | 2000 February 28 |
Two
witnesses reported that they had spotted a strange light hovering over
some turf fields next to the Chario High School. They called a
friend and the three of them headed for the area of the sighting. Upon
arriving, they spotted the light hovering above the nuclear
submarine base at Groton,CT. The light was very bright and unchanging. The
light then moved up and down. It then bounced to the left and bounced back
to the right. They watched it for approximately 5 minutes then it faded
and disappeared. - NUFORC |
Charlestown | 1964 August 1 |
A person reports that while camping at a state park, a very bright light, like a bright star, came up out of the ocean at a 45 degree angle. It continued to zigzag at 45 degree angles upward for a few seconds, as if gaining speed to get out of the earth's gravity, then shot straight up and out of sight. - NUFORC |
Coventry | 1998 January 29 | A person reported hearing helicopters and turned to look up. Saw two helicopters, one higher and the higher one flew in a close proximity to an object that looked like a classic saucer shape with a dome. It had blinking red lights toward the bottom of the dome. After the helicopters flew by the object it came in closer and lower and silently hovered. It's position kept changing in the sky and kept moving away. It then accelerated until it completely vanished. - NUFORC |
East Greenwich | 1997 October 6 | A person reports video taping a cigar shaped craft during an afternoon sighting. It appeared to be traveling at a height of about 1000 feet. (see my photos page for still frames of this report) - Filer's Files |
East Greenwich | 1997 January 29 | A person reports a UFO circular in shape, with three distinct propulsion units on the bottom, and several red rectangular lights around the perimeter. It was traveling in straight lines, forming a triangular pattern, approximate airspeed was about 150 MPH. After approximately 5 minutes, the UFO sped away to the north. - NUFORC |
East Providence | 2001 January 28 | 2 witnesses report seeing two craft flying in clear, sunny skies, when one became stationary. Both were at high altitude. They initially believed them to be aircraft at high altitude, but when one stopped moving, they realized it was of an altitude far too high for a rotary wing aircraft. The sky was clear, and sunny and the craft were illuminating a bright white light. - NUFORC |
East Providence | 1996 June 29 | A large white pulsating light was reported seen by a man and his wife. They watched it pulsate and followed it for a while. They reported being scared and left. - NUFORC |
East Woonsocket | 1967 June 10 | A daytime photograph of a disk-shaped object was taken in East Woonsocket, RI by UFO contactee Harold Trudel. The photograph shows a slightly asymmetric hubcap shaped object with a small dome and aerial extending from the bottom. To even the untrained eye it looks like a fake, more than likely produced by suspending a model from a string. Trudel believes he is in mental contact with space people, who send him telepathic messages as to where and when they will appear. (Timothy Green Beckley, Flying Saucers, December 1970, pg. 26.) |
Hope Valley | 1999 February 20 | A man and his wife report sitting in their sunroom one evening when a craft appeared heading in a southerly direction. They stepped out of the porch for a better look. The craft passed over them silently, slowly, and steadily. The underside of it was dimly lighted by a hazy white light, thus making it possible to see a logo. The logo was a triangle edged in yellow containing the Earth being struck by two red lightning bolts with a number "1" in the right hand corner all on a black background. They estimate the speed of the craft at approximately five to ten miles per hour. The size approximately forty feet in length and forty feet wide at the rear of the craft with the nose of the craft forming a point. The craft looked very similar to the Stealth fighter, however, it was much larger than the plane. The altitude of the craft was approximately one hundred feet. There was not a sound from the craft and it did not even create a breeze. - NUFORC |
Hopkinton | 2000 August 25 | A person reports going outside to smoke a cigarette and noticing an object very high that resembled a star, but it was moving. There were no blinking lights on the object which would indicate that it was an airplane. The object came from the north and traveled towards the southwest. The person listened for sounds as the object moved away but there was none. - NUFORC |
Hopkinton | 1999 February 2 | A person reports a spotted triangular craft moving slowly and silently at about 100 feet in a rural area. It appeared to have a logo on the bottom of it like a triangle containing the Earth and two red lightning bolts striking the Earth and in the right hand lower corner was a number 1. It moved silently and slowly. While viewing this craft the person reported being overcome with a feeling of peace, serenity, very odd, no panic, nothing, just a great feeling! - NUFORC |
Manville | 1996 July 17 | A person reported that while driving north on Interstate Route 295 they saw a UFO. They reported their sighting in a letter to the editor. (Providence Journal-Bulletin) It first appeared as gray, then disappeared and quickly reappeared as silvery. It was not an airplane. Route 295 is six miles west of Providence. - UFO Roundup |
Matunuck | 1998 July 22 | A person reported seeing a V shaped object pass overhead from the deck of their home. The object made no noise and appeared to have several box shaped areas on it that glowed - Filer's Files |
North Kingston | 1997 November 21 | A person reported that while driving on Route 1 they noticed an airplane flying with it's lights on heading in a direction towards the airport. In this same area there are no tall trees and there is a considerable view. The airplane was a couple hundred feet in the air, and they assumed that it was going less than 200 mph if it was heading for a landing at the airport. They then saw another plane above the 1st and it was twice the height of the 1st and it had its lights on and both had a triangular look to them. As they watched both airplanes the 2nd passed the 1st as if it was standing still. Within 5 seconds it was completely out of their sight as it headed east. They estimated that the other plane was going about 10 times the speed of the 1st. - NUFORC |
Pasquag | 2000 July 14 | A witness reported seeing a round object about 40 yards in diameter that had two bright white lights in the front and back and two flashing lights on each side that randomly changed colors to red, yellow, blue, and a really sharp white. It made a high pitch humming sound and as it got closer the noise got louder. - NUFORC |
Portsmouth | 1998 September 22 | Person reported while driving home saw a brief amber/gold oval shaped circle very bright, but not at all blinding, depart at 45 degrees up. As the car came around some trees, they saw nothing. It was really fast. There was no lightning in the area. It was not as fast as lightning. - NUFORC |
Providence | 2000 March 23 |
A witness reports that while watching the stars in the area of the Big Dipper, one star blinked then the witness saw a black rectangular object with dull orange lights coming from the East. After approximately 5 seconds it banked to the North passing in front of the stars of the Big Dipper. The witness reports watching it through a telescope for about 20 seconds. Right before it went out of sight it made a big increase in speed. - NUFORC |
Providence | 1997 September 26 | Reports from six cars driving on Rhode Island Route 10 in Providence. They spotted a large triangular UFO flying slowly to the east. The six cars stopped on an overpass and the occupants got out for a better look. They had the UFO in view for approximately ten minutes. The object had three very bright lights arranged in a triangular pattern together with five smaller dimmer lights arranged in a straight line on the underside of the object. The object appeared to slowly rotate during the ten minutes or so, at which time it began to rise vertically and then accelerated very rapidly until it disappeared in the night sky. - UFO Roundup |
Warwick | 1998 October 15 | A person reported seeing a bright flat object that moved upwards and then disappeared behind some clouds. At first they thought it was a plane because it was flat and the light looked more like sunlight reflecting off chrome. The reflection was the brightest yellow they had ever seen, ,just like the sun. The object stayed still for about 3 minutes then went upwards at a speed not to fast, but faster than a normal plane that would fly in the area. The object continued upwards for about 7 seconds and disappeared behind a cloud. The person reports that If it was a plane it would have been visible after moving beyond the cloud. - NUFORC |
Warwick | 1998 September 26 | A person reported that upon listening to the radio and hearing about reports of unidentified lights in the sky they went out and saw a bright light that appeared to be a comet. They then looked above their roof to see if there were any other objects near it and saw what at first they thought was another comet. Using binoculars they zoomed in and saw 5 white circles with steady non blinking lights. The objects did not move and all the circles were the same size. The circles were much smaller and farther away than the other object to the right. The circles were arranged one behind another equally spaced in an arrangement that looked like a hook. They were pretty convinced this was a comet because as soon as they looked at it one circle in the middle had a little haze around it. But that would not explain how the much bigger circle and much closer circle did not have haze around it also. They went inside for about 15-20 minutes then went back out to see if the objects moved. They zoomed in on both objects again and their shape did not change and they did not move. They went back inside again. They assumed the objects may have stayed out there all night until the early morning. They thought it was a comet, but now think otherwise. - NUFORC |
Warwick | 1997 December 1 | A person reported that while watching TV they noticed a unusual bright object outside that caught their eye. They quickly got up and looked out the front window to look for the object and saw it was moving not extremely fast, but faster than you would see commercial planes. Planes never fly in this area. The object went in one direction then disappeared. It started back again from the beginning and did the same routine over and over again. The object emitted a pulsing light exactly like a star. - NUFORC |
West Warwick | 2001 January 17 | 2 witnesses reported looking out their window when a large bright circular object with a defined ring of about twelve flashing red and white lights suddenly appeared. It seemed to zigzag right to left. It seemed to come straight towards them. It got very large. Suddenly, it took a sharp, straight left turn and disappeared from view. - NUFORC |
West Warwick | 2000 October 8 |
While sitting in a yard a number of witnesses saw what at first appeared to be about a dozen white balloons that were released and floating across the sky. As they drifted to the right some of them paired off. Four or five of the objects went behind some clouds so they determined they were to big and far away for balloons. The seven that were left formed into a triangle, a vertical row of three and a vertical row of two and stayed stationary for a few minutes. One of the witnesses went next door to borrow a pair of binoculars. When they looked back up the objects were gone and did not reappear. - NUFORC |
unknown RI | 1996 September | A person reports that while sitting in the bedroom their house shook a little all of a sudden so they went outside to see what it was. A ball of light was seen above the house in the sky. At first they thought it was a star so they went back inside. They then thought it was too bright to be a star so they went out again and noticed it had moved. It appeared to be behind some trees. They went back inside and upstairs to get a look from their binoculars. It was round and very bright. It was there for a split second longer and then it just vanished. |
unknown RI | 1979 May 15 |
A person reported that while driving home they noticed a very bright white light moving slowly towards their car . They stopped to see what it was and noticed it was very close and was making no noise. After about 7-8 minutes the white light went off, and it began to flash 4 different colored lights, blue, yellow, reddish and green lights. They observed these lights for 5 minutes then the lights stopped pulsating. The white light came back on and it began to slowly move back to where it came from. They watched it move slowly back over the trees and disappear. The object was around 50-60 feet in diameter and it was not a helicopter, plane or balloon. - NUFORC |
