Elements Warring

In Four Parts

Part I--Air and Wind

Wind Weeping whispers on forlorn winds
Sweeping breezes carrying cries and sighs
Immortal wanderings of the forgotten hopes
Neverending wanderlusts
Moving along on a higher plain
Your rapture as strong as the beat of an eagle's wing
Until the whispers leave and the kite crashes
Back to Earth

The storm comes out of the quiet roar
Crashing and crackling
Soul ripped from your body
As you give in freely
Ripped from mortal shell of the earth
Into the dark clouds you soar
Free, free, free
Freest soul, hearty laugh
Changing World and Time

Electrical crack, energy diffusion
Its rage is vented upon the ground
The world is one and four
Elements warring in the balance
Battle ends and the breezes sweep your face
Taking your glad tears
With soft touches
Kisses you goodbye
And is gone

Come crashing back to earth
And to your mortal shell filled
Heart swelled with glad
And ripped with loss
And again the
Wind crept back

Part II--Earth and Ground

Snuffling pig snout
Digging for golden corn
Or brown truffle
Such a lovely creature
Burrowing mole can't see but darkness
Grunting and snuffling in its pleasure
Moving dirt to get from here to there
Earthworm, no mind, just direction
Eating ground, spitting it back out
Wriggling on my fishing hook

Great groaning beast Eternal
Find an itch and scratch it
With new mountains
Jutting and Jagged
Scraping skies
Or gorges deep and fallen
That take your feet out from under you

Crystal gems and invincible steel
Running circuitries of crystal highways
Deep beauty of emerald and ruby
Rhinestone and diamond
Gold and Talc
Crickets and fireflies
Boreworms, grasshoppers, and butterflies

Scythe in the evening of the late early Fall
In the Spring the ground is tilled
Dirt in fingers
Loam under our feet
A feel for life as it is, waiting for us
Sow our seeds, little shoots under light rains
Summer comes, bright sun, giving warmth
Growing from green to gold
Fall and Autumn, bountiful reapings for the feasts
Winter and white
Time to sleep
In fleeting warmth keep
Close together, in each other's embrace
Sowing the winter wheat

Earth screams!
Red-orange bleeding
As volcano erupts
Cranky and angry
Sees laughing skies
Sighing winds grinding down Earth
Earth demands vengeance!

Ground and Water in pact
Holy or Unholy
The War of Balance rages
Wind calls on Fire for power
And Earth does as well
Mountains climb higher and higher
Defying the skies
Trenches, valleys, deep in the ground
Deep under water
Fire in its gut
Wind whipping away
Green, brown and water's Blue
Battle lines drawn

Pig's snout has found
Its golden grain
Its dark truffle

Part III--Water

BLOOP!
Plish!
Splash!
Surf's roar upon sandy beaches
Twinkle, tinkle, trickle of backyard stream
Cool or hot
Hurricane's scream
Silence
Deep beneath with pink coral
Blue gills, golden scales
Of "ooo"ing fish
And waving tentacles
Tranquility and calm
Shared conscious of the social mind
Atlantis is all around you

Cities of pearl and sand
Hair free and flowing
Limpid green things moving with the current
Predator shark and piranha, equalizers in paradise
Stingrays flying on currents
Like birds in the air
Jellyfish, water's balloons, pretty and clear
Don't touch!
Or feel its poisoned sting!

Swim, swim, swim
Breathing with gentle gills
Echoing laughter, fluid thoughts
Slip and slide, water is silk everywhere
Or skin on skin, wet and naked
Run forever, move two inches
Star fish in the sky

Giant squid, octopi
Lamprey and leech
Threatening life to stay alive
Swim/run to the coral caves
Hide with the shy fish till the danger passes
Crawl out, warm and safe
Like babe in womb
A sigh of prebirth memories

Waking with no reason for waking
Childhood laughter of content
Close your eyes and curl up
Sleep forever in the calm, warm wave
Slowly moving on the quiet eddies

Part IV--Fire

Primordial force of the universe
Malcontent uprisings on a daily basis
Never satisfied
Always warring, always raging
Scorching your skin
Eating the flesh, seering your eyes
Evil laughter among Halls of Brass
Turn to run, run, run
Try to hide
It will always find you
Always get you
Water's sanctuary is only a brief reprise
Before it is boiled away
And you're left facing Hell's open maw

Fire, fire, fire
Burning in your blood
Rushing through the veins
When the snake the apple offered
In the Great Fall
It was poisoned and the poison sits still
In man's heart
A rage of unborn life

Fire's efreeti waging war
On hapless djinn of the air
White flame never looked so fair
As it does within the hearth
Sleep warm and content
On Earth's crusty surface
Then, as eyes close, sparks one by one
Jump and leap with impish joy
Landing in the dry wood of the floor
Starting to feel kind of high
As it begins to multiply
Look for bones in the ashes
In the morning light
Careless thought, simple discarding
Turns kindling into a new star
Flaring for a mile or two
Sheets of destruction
Moving in hunger
Without clear instruction
To destroy, destroy, destroy
Its eternal joy

Join my quest for fire
On the edge of gaseous giant
Orbiting a small star
Compression of the chamber
Metal flies
As simple spark
Emerging from the dark
To create light, extinguish life to darkness
To kill the simple creatures
The carbon boiled from their skin
Watch the flesh peel from bones and eyes
Screams filled with agony and fire!
The eternal shriek of rage
Echoed in the Big Bang
Our birth, our end

No way to defend ourselves
It is a god
It will not, cannot, be denied!!
Fire, fueled, never stopped
Wind and Air will feed and fan the flame, never put it out
Water made vapor, elements separated, weakest substance
Earth groans and belches as it is melted away
Forced to give prenatural birth

Guttering flame of my candle dancing and unsteady
From the jets of my breath and
The wind that seeps through the cracks
Burning earth's sap, the wax
Too much gluttony will swallow it
It sits upon my bedside desk
As I wet my fingers
And snuff out the life
With the wet, watery touch
And the darkness comes
Like a cold touch of breath
War's over, stalemate occurs
All things dominate
All things dominated
All things, thus, equal
