The Second True Visitation of Our Lady Dawn

left rolled up by the altar of Angie, She Who Is the Dark Aspect of Her Grooviness

I've been into dolls all my life. I bought my Dawns when I was about 18- living at home, working - no bills or anything. Every payday I would go to the Ben Franklin store & buy up all the new Dawn stuff.

One week they had all the dolls & outfits in a big bin in the front of the store, marked down to $1.00 each & I bought one of everything. That is when I got some of the hard to find outfits like Knitty Midi, Gala Go Go, Cupid's Beau.

I have one of every doll (loose, mint - I don't care for boxes, they're no fun!) and very nearly all of the outfits. The outfits are stored in comic book bags & boards in a box that fits them so they aren't getting crushed or sticking together.

I have the car, the apartment, the beauty salon, but I sold the fashion show, the phone chair & the beauty pageant because they just take up too much room! I also have the paper dolls, the 'magic' paper doll, the coloring book --- the one thing I don't have & really want is the same colorforms set that you are looking for!

One unique thing that I have is a collection of outfits that my mom crocheted for my Dawns. Mom was ill & couldn't move around a lot, but she got bored easily, and one day I came home from work & she held up a tiny bathing suit with matching beachbag and sunhat & said, "Look what I made for Dawn." I said, "Well, that's great, but I have four Dawn dolls - where's the other three bathing suits?" She grumped & complained, but over the next couple days, she made 3 more swimsuit outfits, all different!

Then one day, I came home to find Angie in a white blouse, purple mini jumper with matching hat & purse & we went through the "where's the other three" thing again! So she had to do three more outfits. She did a series of four evening gowns, and four pants-suits, too.

Mom died from cancer shortly after finishing the last of these outfits, so they are doubly precious to me, but they are also very stylish & pretty on their own. They inspired me to crochet a few items for the Dawns, but I did mainly theme outfits - I made a Gary a pirate, one Angie was Scarlett O'Hara, there was a Spanish dancer & an Arabian Nights costume -- you get the picture! The best one was a curly-haired Glori in a black & silver witch's costume, complete with miniature broom! Mom's stuff was current fashions that a teen-age girl in the late 60s would wear.

I plan to never get over my fascination with Dawn! She is truly a goddess!
