Name: Unknown but possibly Bishop
First Appearence: Uncanny X-Men #282
The enigmatic Bishop comes from one of the possible future timelines the X-Men have tried so hard to prevent. In his past, and the X-Men's future, the world post-sentinal rule and Summers Rebellion, had become strict and cruel. Bishop was a member of Xaviers. Security. Enforcers. or X.S.E.s for short. Attaining the rank of commander, he worked with two younger officers, Malcolm and Randall, to maintain peace in a world gone bad and act as judge, jury and executioner for any criminals.
When the mutant criminal Fitzroy escaped from prison, by draining the lifeforce of a rat, and creating one of his time portals to flee, Bishop pursued him. Fitzroy had aided many other hardened criminals to escape and had brought them backwards in time to the X-Men's timeline. Unknown to Bishop, Fitzroy had also seemingly killed Jean Grey during his attack on the Hellfire Club using more advanced Sentinals to decimate the X-Men and the Hellions. When Bishop, accompanied by Malcolm and Randall, stepped through the portal and unknowingly found themselves thrust backwards through time and into a raging battle. Wasting no time, the officers of the law quickly went about their mission and began slaughtering the escaped criminals. Not understanding who or what he was, the X-Men attempted to stop him from carrying out his task. They suceeded but as a result many of the criminals escaped with Fitzroy.
At first Bishop believed the X-Men to be decieving him with their apperence and claims, resisted them and fled while Fitzroy's citadel collapsed. Tracking the escapees, the trio, once again attemped to fullfill their scentences. Knowing that Bishop was an energy absorber and rechanaller, the criminals used guns to attack. Without thinking, Malcholm and Randall sacrificed their lives in order that Bishop could live. Eventually he encountered the X-Men again and was allowed to join at Xavier's request. Though his techniques were out of line for his present era, his heart was fully dedicated to Xavier's dream.
The X-Men, most notably Storm, helped him to adjust to his current prediciment. His energy absorbing powers and excellent combat knowledge have served the team on many occasions, but Bishop holds himself to even higher standards. In his timeline the X-Men had been betrayed, and as a result killed, by one of their own. The only witness to the crime was Remy LeBeau aka Gambit. Arriving at the logical conclusion, Bishop assumed that Gambit had been behind the X-Men's death. He had attempted at times to confront Gambit, but the former X-Man was enigmatic in the responses he would give.
When Bishop confronted the X-Men about it, and directly accused Gambit of killing the X-Men, the X-Men took Gambit's side. They felt that Bishop was too much an unknown whereas Gambit had served by their sides for many months. Undaunted, Bishop made it his goal to prevent the X-Men's gruesome fate and in particular to stop Gambit by any means possible. To do so he dedicated much of his time to partroling the grounds. His resolve to protect the X-Men has suprised many notable villians who expected X-Men to use less drastic techniques than Bishop; he's the X-Man with fangs.
While on a mission in Israel the X-Men battled David Haller, Xavier's son. Legion easily overpowered the X-Men and while exploring his new god-like powers, jumped backwards in time. In order to stop him, Storm suceeded in linking herself, Bishop, Iceman, and Psylocke to Legion and traveled back through time in Charles Xavier's past to kill a young Magneto. Although they at first were amnesic, they soon realized their mission after Cable contacted them. They fought Legion again and he overwhelmed them for a second time but in his haste to kill Magneto, Legion accidentally killed Charles Xavier. As the other X-Men, and Legion himself, were changed in the changing of the timestream, Bishop remained unaffected due to his prior displacement in time, the sole survivor of a world with Xavier. Enter the Age of Apocalypse.
Bishop managed to survive the early stages of the Age of Apocalypse, a world of mass destruction and death, all on his own. When he finnaly met this world's X-Men in Seattle, his rage exploded as he attacked Magneto; one of the few people who knew of Bishop's existence. The X-Men restrained him, and using Rogue's absorbing power, they learned his secrets from the inside out. In doing so they realized that to prevent all their current chaos from happening they would have to go back in time, again, and stop Legion. Motivated by Bishop, Magneto organized his X-Men to fullfil a multitude of tasks such as rescuing Illyana Rasputin (a time manipulator), stealing the M'Krann Crystal (the Nexus of all realities), and defeating Apocalypse once and for all. In the end they suceeded and Bishop was the one sent back in time to stop Legion. When he confronted himself, he used Legion's powers to give his memories to his former self, before defeating Legion and restoring the timestream.
Back in the real timeline, Bishop began struggling with his doppleganger's memories and feared he was going insane. During this confusing time for him, the refugee's from the Age of Apocalypse began to realize that Bishop was a tempral prize to be valued. The Dark Beast attempted to kidnap him and Mr. Sinister later mind scanned him, uncovering the existence of the AoA. His memory problems have never been really resolved, for at the moment he finds himself in outer space. While defeating the Phalanx, Bishop began to develop a possible attraction to Deathbird. Upon their voyage home, Bishop was teleported off the ship by Deathbird. Although she has told him he was crippled in the the disaster that necitated the teleportation, he has already discovered that is false. The real question is what exactly Deathbird has planned for him and if the X-Men will ever come to his rescue...
