Due to the phenomenon of time dilation that occurs at near light speed travel, accurate timekeeping was impossible. Roughly 1400 Earth years passed on the 1426 light year voyage that seemed to take a mere 215 years for the passengers aboard. Each ARK had about seven generations of inhabitant's live complete lives aboard the ship. During the journey, several scientific advancements were made, including much work in the field of gravitics. As the mixed population mingled and cross-bred, the average human now looked light brown in color, with numerous shades of hair and eyes. The average male stood 5'11" and weighed 180 lbs., while the average female was 5'7" and 115 lbs. During the travel, several ships experienced problems, and some disappeared altogether. The most notable problems occurred with 07F and 18B, they both had suffered from sabotage to their life support systems. 07F developed mutations on a colossal scale, affecting nearly every human aboard. 18B had a Y chromosome mutation surface that caused the males to die off early, usually by the end of the 21st year of life. Both of these life-support maladies began to surface at about the third generation of travel.
All told, only 10 ARKs have been accounted for, and of those one was found with absolutely no survivors, its magnetic shield having collapsed during the trip. The status of the other 14 remains undetermined.
One source of concern for the new region is the fact that every ARK sent out was controlled by a massive "captain." One human being from the passengers was selected to have their brain coded into a supercomputer, effectively making him immortal. This captain was then able to guide the ship and track all vital happenings aboard. For many reasons, keeping the ancient technology for these wet computers out of foreign hands is of the utmost importance.
