Hello!  My name is Holly Monsen and I will be your teacher this year for sophomore biology.  I plan on making this an enjoyable experience for all of us so let me tell you a little about myself.  I was born in Arizona but have lived in Maine for most of my life.  As you can see by the picture I am very interested in animals and have done wildlife rehabilitation for over 10 years.  I graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelors degree in Animals science in 2006 and continued on to get my Masters in Secondary education also from UMaine.  I have always enjoyed biology and hope to pass the good experiences on to you.

I believe in hands on learning and we will be doing a lot of collaborative projects and experiments.  Half of the class will consist of lecture and the other half laboratory.  I have an open door policy and if you are having trouble completing assignments in the allotted time or at all I encourage you to come speak with me.   Alternative assignments may be available for certain projects that students do not wish to participate in for personal reasons or otherwise (such as in dissection)  though I encourage everyone to participate in all units.

If parents have any questions or concerns I also encourage them to contact me by either email or phone to set up a meeting.

I look forward to meeting all of you in the Fall! Please come equipped with an open mind and feel free to come with suggestions of your own for the class.
