"Fairies like their houses neat, but fairies don't dust."
Those of us interested in Faeries and us Otherkin have always been a bit
miffed when fae are labeled angels. This subject has been brought up on
several occasions by the "The Faeries Discussion List"
( FAERIES@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM )and there isn't much we can do about it,
other than continue to insist the difference. Faeries are insightful
reflections of our own human natures, sharing our quirks, something we
relate to, the imperfections that make us beautiful. Angels are archetypal
perfection.
Leslie D'Allesandro Hill is an artist who created coloured pencil
illustrations of fantasy landscapes and faeries, some published as greeting
cards for "Dragon Tales" Fantasy Art Card Co. With this exposure, she wrote
a new book after her faeries were repeatedly mistaken for angels by fans.
"Fairies have Wings, but they're not Angels!" was the result of this
common occurrence, a hardcover childrens' book of lovely full page colour
illustrations of fairies, complete with 52 delightful and humourous
one-liners describing the fae and whimsically reflecting human nature.
"Fairyisms."
It is my opinion that this charming work, though intended as a childrens'
book, is destined to enchant imaginations of all ages. It is a definite
Must-Read for all audiences.
Here are a few of my personal favourite "Fairyisms" from the book:
"Fairies love fur, if there's an animal in it."
"Fairies are bossy, unless they hear a better idea."
And the ultimate fairyism/human fault:
"Fairies sleep well at night, unless there's chocolate in the house."
