The Monsters of the Lochs
"The Monsters of the Lochs"
Scottish folklore raises many questions about the appearances and powers of the Kelpies. But there is one thing is always mentions, these fae folk are extremely dangerous. Originally coming from the North Sea and all the lochs of Scotland they are extremely strong and frightful to travelers or any other mortal passing by. At times it was even questioned if the sightings of the Loch Ness Monster were actually the sightings of these fae.
Their purpose was simple, to capture and drown deer, other fairies and even humans to eat. They did possess glamour, but it was limited to shape shifting to take on the form of a horse or humanoid near water. A human would often see the horse and mount it as a typical beast of burden. Unfortunately what seemed like a kind steed was often a monster with huge teeth, pointed ears, a horses mane and tale combined with the torso of a woman.
There is not much protection from these unseelie kith except common sense. To avoid fae attacks many travelers jumped into streams flowing south only to find themselves as the main course for a group of these monsters. But their element is water and they rarely stray far from it. To avoid them avoid water. If one is ever near water avoid wild horses and naked humans that suddenly appear by a loch. Chances are these fae will not only be nude, but as a restriction to their shapeshifting abilities, all kelpies have hair like seaweed no matter how human they look.
