Karan smiled as the crowd shouted exactly what she wanted to hear. They all cheered behind the old elf who knew for sure the griffins were known as scapegoats too long. Then she thought of how valuable the gold was that adorned her body. Smiling she ran into the crowd and began dancing in a way no one had ever seen before. After a series of twists and turns she spun gold coins before everyone's feet. In amazement everyone bent over to touch the gold, "Is this real?" the crowd whispered among themselves, "Can I have this?"

Karan bowed before everyone after taking a few steps away from the mass, "Yes, consider it a gift from your new friends. Now those of you who wish to go to the griffins' mountain for refuge be at this exact spot tommorow, my friends will come for you then and take you away. That should give you enough time to decide who wants to leave the Isle of Man or not."

"Well I'm not leaving." the man who doubted her before said as he approached her to address her only.

"You don't have to."

"I won't."

"Well I hope you will be happy here then."

"Do you think it's that easy to clear you 'families' name?" he asked folding his arms and eyeing her with suspicion.

"Well.." Karan shrugged, "It seemed to work so far, why are you so sour about this? The griffins have done nothing to you."

"You're right I guess they haven't." the man said sitting down on a large stone next to her, "My family died in a famine and they blamed the griffins, but I never saw the creatures anywhere near. It's hard for me to accept the idea that they lied."

"These are trying times for a lot of people." she said moving closer. The conversation seemed to include only the two of them now, and Karan was curious about him. It was not often she saw another human like herself. "We just have to be strong, what's your name?"

"Giran."

"Giran, why that's a lovely name. I am called Karan, it sounds a lot like your name. I am sorry you lost those you love, but hopefully you should be fine…at least for now."

"The Isle of Man is a lovely place, so far it seems free from evil. But the world wasn't always like this.…if only we could change things."

"And you don't think you can do you?" came an unfamiliar voice. A small neigh followed the words as a grand winged horse came into view. Its wings were white but shined under the light with many colors like opals in pure sunlight. Its fur was pure, with hardly a blemish to its soft skin and it bowed in greeting, "Hopelessness brings no hope, remember that."

Karan and Giran were both in awe at the creature. It was magnificent and nimble as it approached and spoke with eloquence that almost no one could possess, "Who are you?" Karan said as the two continued to stare.

"I am Aloysius, the wise one. One of the queen's advisor's and ….a friend."

"You knew the queen?" both humans said in surprise.

"Yes, but it was a long time ago. She foresaw something evil and sacrificed herself so her world would have a fighting chance against it."

"I knew the queen did not desert us!" Karan exclaimed overjoyed to hear what Aloysius said.

"We do not know that." Giran interjected, "He could well be lying."

"Oh am I?" the horse neighed in response, "Then why does the Isle of Man and a few other havens still exist? The world still have a chance to fight this evil, be it a slim one."

"What must we do?" Karan asked as she jumped up to move closer the newcomer.

"What must WE do?" Giran said in disgust.

"Your friend doesn't seem interested to help." came the reply, "It is foretold that a human can find the crown and rule….but which human it is, well that's not known."

"I will do whatever I can to get the world back to the way it was and Giran, you know you would do the same."

"I agree I would, but I just met this 'horse.'"

Aloysius neighed again with a touch of anger, "I'm not a typical horse boy, but if you don't want to come along just say so."

Giran stood up and walked closer to the two, "I'll come with you and do whatever I can, but if I sense you're lying I want to come back."

"Well there's only one way to find out." the pegasus kneeled down to let both humans on top of his back, "Shall we go on a quest to find the crown?"

Karan smiled and anxiously mounted the creature. She sent a brief telepathic message to Tarlar not to worry but that she would be gone for a while. Giran quickly changed his mind and followed her knowing the Isle of Man would eventually become too crowded. He held onto her tight as Karan held tight to Aloysius' mane, "Up up and away!" he shouted and in moments they flew high into the clouds many feet away from the haven beneath them.
