Sweet Girl

"Sweet Girl"

She sang a sweet song
thought no one would listen
run away, sweet girl, run away
She brought life through her lips
like creation's sweet kiss
run away, sweet girl, run away
Yet someone did hear
someone appeared
run away, sweet girl, run away
And now this evil soul
with a heart very cold
told her "Stay, sweet girl, please please stay."
Oh if only I was quick enough
to save her from his touch
A will o the wisp
Holds nothing next to lust
But I loved her
And the evil one spoke:
"Do not stop fair maiden,
your song enchants me
stay, sweet girl, please stay.
"For life in this dark swamp
holds only soft ground, dreary lochs
stay, sweet girl, please stay."
I flickered in the distance
a silent light in the night
oh if only she could see me
look past her mundane sight.
But he held her in his grasp,
his words strong,
"Stay, sweet girl, please stay."
And she stayed
and she sung
and she sung
and she sung
Until tears fell from her eyes
I knew the spell was done.
He laughed and snickered in delight,
"Now your music, is mine everynight
you will stay, sweet girl, you will stay."
And the grass of the swamp
uprooted to meet her
limbs of trees reached out
moss covering her features.
So there stands my true love
in the shape of a tree
where she shall stay, sweet girl, she shall stay
Her voice calls out
in songs of the night
"Run away fair maidens, run away!"
