Power Description, Workings, & Limitations:
The mutant known as Half Life has access to a large reservoir of power. (Side note:
This mutant ability seems to be the major inherited quality of the Weisser genes. How each
member of the mutant strain uses the energy is the point of separation.) Heinrich Weisser,
of the two known Weisser mutants (see file: Magician), is the more direct. He uses this
energy reservoir to project electromagnetic radiation from his hands in a directed beam or
broadcast. Measurements of the field indicate that the starting point is approximately 5
cm from his hands.
This is not to say, however, that Half Life is immune to his own radiation. Half Life
does receive some backwash of radiation, even from the directional beams. This effectively
limits his ability to project the more energetic and dangerous radiation and rarely does
Half Life broadcast radiation of a wavelength of less than 400 nm(upper range of visible
light.) His main form of combat is infrared at high amplitudes, which is why he wears
nomex lined gloves.
Half Life also has no ability to broadcast more than one wavelength at a time. Half
Life does have a very fine amount of control over the radiation, able to broadcast with
decimal precision on any frequency and amplitude. Speaking to Half Life's radio abilities,
he has no ability to receive radio transmissions, and does not have the technical knowledge
to broadcast more than static over any station.
Skills:
To further his technical knowledge, Heinrich has begun to study physics and ham radio, but
has not progress very far in his studies. He also has some experience in lock picking,
having been indoctrinated by his brother, but does not practice it.
History:
Heinrich Kevin Weisser was born on March 3, 1988 in Redlands, CA. His parents,
Christian Weisser and Hanna Weisser nee Reiley were first generation German and third
generation Irish respectively. At an early age, Heinrich showed the same prodigious
intelligence as his brother (Edward Weisser, age five (see file: Magician)). On July 17,
1991, however, Christian Weisser abandoned his wife and two sons for an undisclosed reason.
The biographer speculates that the strength of the Weisser mutant strain makes it likely
that Christian Weisser was a mutant himself, and left to spare his family persecution.
While Edward Weisser seems to have been profoundly affected by his father's departure,
Heinrich (or as he later liked to be called, Henry) had hardly known his father. So,
instead, he transferred his admiration to his older brother, Edward. Henry, when he went
to school, made friends, but always idolized his brother and attempted to emulate him.
When Henry was seven, his brother began to become verbally abusive to him. Having
idolized his brother, Henry thought that the abuse was deserved, and tried to redeem himself
in his brother's eyes. When he found out that it was because he wasn't a mutant, he cursed
himself for being too weak to become a mutant, but still hoped to show to Edward that at
least his human brother was smart. Henry tried hard in school, in athletics, in anything
that he thought would make his brother forgive him for not being a mutant. This lasted
for four years.
Then, when Henry was 11, he manifested his own mutant powers. When his brother, who
had escalated to low level hazing in his abuse of Henry, locked him into a dark box, Henry
was able to emit light to see by. When Edward let him out, he showed Edward what he could
do. For Henry, it was a godsend for him to be a mutant, for now it seemed, his idol cared
for him. And to some degree, Edward did. Edward then indoctrinated Henry in the tools of
the trade, and they proceeded to rob more lockers than Edward had ever done on his own.
Then, on February 5, Edward was arrested and eventually sent to Juvenile Hall. During
this period, Henry turned away from his brother's path. For the past few months, he had
had reservations as to what they were doing, since he was friends with a few of the people
that they had robbed, and had never developed his brother's condescending hatred of humans.
Without his brother, Henry had the breathing space to look on his life, and he did not enjoy
what it had become. He realized that his idol was in fact "just another jerk", and that
his entire life had been made miserable by his brother's cruelty and his own willingness to
concede and assist.
By the time Edward escaped six months later, Henry, if not hated, severely disliked his
brother. When his brother offered to take Henry with him so they could become a team, he
rejected his brother, told him off, and anonymously called the police. Edward left.
Since then, Henry has been trying to make amends for what he did while he was a thrall
of Edward. Eventually, he came to the attention of the X-men, and was offered a scholarship
to attend this institution. He has been here for a year. He is a precocious student, but
one wonders how much of his diligence is enjoyment, and how much is a drive to surpass his
brother.
Personality:
Half Life, unlike his carefree brother, has a much more serious personality. He takes
responsibility very seriously since his reform, and sometime can push his teammates too hard
as a consequence. However, his brother's infectious attitude and carefree spirit sometimes
shines through, especially when Half Life is taking it easy. He therefore is a study in
polar opposites. Carefree and silly when relaxed, but intensely focused when diligent.
He is, in fact, intensly focuses upon all things that he undertakes.
Half Life as also shown some dislike for his powers. While it is not the biographer's
opinion that he hates being a mutant, one feels he still blames his powers for getting him
mixed up with his brother.
Half Life's relations with his brother are much colder than cordial. He still remembers
what his brother put him through because he was a human, and still has not forgiven him.
He therefore will attack his brother if necessary. He does not hate his brother enough to
wish to attack him on sight, however.
Relationships:
Charles Xavier: Henry is one of my most promising students, but our relationship goes
little beyond teacher and student. He is attentive in class, and dilligent in the physical
training that I have requred he undergo before becoming an active X-man. However, in him I
see the fanatisim that I saw in Eric when we worked togther, and that frightens me and
heartens me at the same time. His involvement in some of Dual's pranks has also worried
me, and so I keep a close eye on him. He seems to become nervous around me, though.
Scott Summers: Scott's own drive has seemed to touch a cord with Henry. In Scott, I believe,
some of Henry's hero worship lies. It is not very rare for Henry's Danger room exercises to be
during times when Scott is either training or working the danger room. Scott himself likes
Henary's attitude toward his duities, and they have struck up a friendship that has overcome
the awkwardness of teacher to student.
Jean Gray: Jean and Henry seem to get along with eachother, although Jean has confided in
me that she shares my anxiety over Henry's future. She is sure that if Half Life were truly
forced to choose between his brother and his ideals, he would join his brother. I do not feel
this is the case, but Jean joins me in keeping watch over him.
Ororo Munroe: Henry and Ororo do not get along all that well. Henry is frequently very
cordial toward Ororo, and Ororo, on her side, has not pursued a relationship. I'm not sure
why Henry has a dislike for Ororo, but it might have to due with her past, since she has not
always been on the side of the angels.
Hank McCoy: Hank seems to be Henry's other friend on the faculty. Henry, who is quite
precocious, likes to help Hank out in his lab. They therfore have developed a more classic
teacher-student relationship, and Hank genuinely likes his assistant. Overall, Henry and
Hank are tightly bonded, although Henry's drive can annoy Hank at times.
Remy LeBeau: Of all the teachers, Henry and Remy have the least friendly relationship.
Henry seems to take a positive dislike to Remy, and Remy returns the feeling. Even when
Henry is relaxed, Remy finds him too stiff to be good company. I'm sure that Remy's carefree
attitude gets on Henry's nerves alot, since Remy probably reminds Henry of his brother.
Henry's very disrespectful attitude and cold attitude toward Remy don't help the matter, either. (
