Prowl

One of the original Autobots who were aboard the Ark when it crashed on Earth, Prowl could transform from a robot into a police car. Considered to be an excellent warrior with a keen intellect, Prowl often showed leadership abilities, making him a possible successor to the Autobot command if Optimus Prime fell.

His rifle fired acid pellets and a detatchable grappling hook (cartoon).

Cartoon Bio (US):

Prowl was one of the original Autobots emerging from the Ark in 1984.

About a year into the Earth campaign of the Cybertronian Civil Wars, Prowl's role in the chain of command became less visible, like that of many of the other "original" Autobots. Helping to pilot a shuttle from one of Cybertron's moons to Earth, he was killed off within the first five minutes of the battle that resulted from a Decepticon boarding party. Shot by Scavenger in the chest, he spewed smoke from his mouth before collapsing, indicating the posibility of an internal fire of some sort. By that time, he was presumably under Ultra Magnus in the chain of command, perhaps equal to Kup. He was not seen again until the events of Dark Awakening, when Daniel entered the Autobot crypt.

Comic Bio (US):

Prowl assumed leadership of the Autobots soon after reactivation on Earth. This occurred when the head of Autobot leader Optimus Prime was captured by the Decepticons. He led an attempt to retrieve Prime's head. Despite a Decepticon trap, Prime was sucessfully revived; however, Prowl was damaged in the ensuing battle. He was later seen active when Ratchet patched him up just enough to scare off the Mechanic. He was eventually fully revived as an "Actionmaster" when Grimlock pumped Nucleon into the stasis pods of all the deactivated Autobots. Prowl took part in the battle against Unicron, where Optimus Prime lost his life. Instead of nominating Prowl as his successor, the dying Autobot commander chose Grimlock.

Prowl took his commander's death very personally and often criticized Grimlock's actions, perhaps because Prowl thought that he could do a better job. Prowl was one of the chief mediators during the after war Autobot/Decepticon peace process.

Comic Bio (UK):

After losing his life, Prowl was accidentally reactivated by Galvatron's dream scanner device, along with some other previously inactive Autobots. Along with Wheeljack, he thwarted Megatron (who was not full Decepticon leader, but still very powerful with Soundwave, the Stunticons and the Constructicons under his command) in his attempt to convert the earth's atmosphere for energy. Prowl was repaired and cared for some humans in Louisiana after disabling Megatron's super missile and was later found by Jazz and Sunstreaker, who were part of the Autobot Earthforce under Grimlock's command. Prowl and Wheeljack henceforth also became part of the Autobot Earthforce. Prowl took the role of second-in-command under Grimlock and got along with the Dinobot rather well. Prowl took part in numerous Earth missions, such as stopping a Bombshell controlled Superion, saving a human reporter from the Stunticons and trying to find a cure for Snarl, who was dying from Corrolis Gravis. Prowl had a friendly disposition, getting along with the other Autobots even Grimlock, and often helped Grimlock as leader of the Earthforce. Prowl led an 'invasion' into the Autobot Earthforce base, when Wheeljack set off its defences without anyone inside to switch them off, leaving the Autobots unable to enter their own base without being attacked.
