Herald's Whites
Every year the Heralds wear what they have worn before
And every year new Heralds quickly learn the score.
The elder ones throw up their hands and give them this advice:
"The hardest thing that you will do is keep clean your Herald's Whites."
Oh, you'll scrub them and you'll bleach them till they're like to fall apart
But they'll still be gray and dingy. It will really break your heart.
Your hands will chap and blister and it all will be for nought
You can't remove the bloody stains from the battles you've fought.
But white's our chosen color so live with it we must
Even though the damned things show every speck of dust.
We sigh and we remember that bit of old advice:
"The hardest thing you'll ever do is keep clean your Herald's Whites."
