Hikaru Sulu was born in 2237 in San Francisco, Earth. He was originally assigned as a physicist aboard the original Enterprise in 2265, but later transferred to the helm.
In 2290 he assumed command of the starship Excelsior.
Sulu had a wide range of hobbies including botany and fencing. Old Guns were another one of his hobbies.
He was first seen in "Where no man has gone before".
